I haven't any SPS corals in my tank and that is a problem (upside) that I am wanting to correct (downside) I really haven't a clue other than you want low Nitrates and a calicum level around 400. Is there a book out there or a web site, something to get me going in the right direction, I would hate to buy corals just to watch them die. I have read post by some where there nitrates were low calicum just right but they were having PH swings and their sps corals were'nt doing so good. I know this can happen to anyone in this hobby but I would at least like to have a good understanding of where I need to be in the tank from the start. Thanks for your time.

Here is a list on amazon:
Amazon.com: Reefkeeping Books

The standouts that I've referenced before are:
Aquarium Corals : Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History
by Eric H. Borneman
Amazon.com: Aquarium Corals : Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History (0681290087478): Eric H. Borneman: Books

and if you want an entire series this one would be nice to own:

The Reef Aquarium Vol 1-2 (the first two in the first link)
Vol.1 by Julian Sprung
Vol. 2 by J. Charles Delbeek

BTW, Check your local library and local reef club to find out if you can borrow some of the books above before you buy one. It would be a great way to evaluate it before you but it.

That is great that you are getting more information before jumping in. Those books are great, and reading online helps alot to. Feel free to ask general questions here too.

I bought a Small birds nest coral about 6 months ago just to see if I could keep it alive, lasted about 2 or 3 months before biteing the dust. So I figured I would do some major researching before jumping in and buying a frag package from someone.

I need to invest in a few test kits to meet my SPS dreams and would like to have a few recommendations on what I should get. The only test kits I have now are Nitrates and Calicum test kits, I know these aren't enough. If you could, give me brand names.

Since I do not have all your answers, I did a search for you and came up with this thread:

I hope it helps and if not, feel free to post any additional questions
