this is mine i built! it is for a 180g, but might give you an idea.. it is a 2x4 and 2x6 construction (and plywood on top of course), with red oak as the "covering". 3 coats of stain and 3 of poly. did take a while because i could only work on it a bit at a time, but i think it turned out nice. the things i would do differently the next go around, is that i would use less oak. i ended up using quite a bit accidentally as nailers..

I got a steel shelving unit from a friend that measures 8x4 and has a shelf underneath, my tank is only 24" deep so I put a 55 gal tank behind it for observing new fish before entering 240.

just "built them out".. kinda stacking different layers of wood on top of one another. I have a thread somewhere on atlantareefclub.com
