So I found an excellent deal on the Max250 with stand and hood. I started out according to what I had read and what I had remembered from having a tank some 15 years ago.
- I filled with good water and salt, added ~70 pounds of rock - some live - and 50 pounds of reef salt for a sandbed of ~1-2"
- checked water almost daily, ammonia, then nitrate spiked then both declined to 0/2 and stayed there around day 7
- Added 4 sets of snails, 5 of each - turban, nassarius, turbo, bumble bee, probably too early
- Added algea blenny, sea hare and 3 emerald crabs
- Added yellow tang, soon removed yellow tang, way too much of a bully
- Added 3" frogspawn and small zoanithid colony
- Added 2 pajama cardinals, 3 green chromis, one of which immediately went into whirling death syndrome. I think I accidentally roughed him up
- Tank seems to be doing well, ammonia/nitrate is steady at 0/2, calcium/alk/phosphate all good

Have plenty of questions so I'll be posting in specific forums - good luck to all!
