Been doing acclimation box for years hence the reason I have so many tangs together without wars and injury. It is effective way to get fish introduced to new arrival before release. Quarantine was recommended if you read my post.
Agreed. Did you read mine? lol

Is the metro flakes a commercially prepared product? I haven't seen anything on the market like that for a few years now. Dosing is vital with oral meds - in the case of metro, it needs to be fed at 0.5% by food weight every third day for three treatments.

It's a product from "Ken's fish food" a big name in freshwater. It's where I got all my discus and pleco foods from. He makes it himself.

The problem - IMHO - is that who knows how much 'metronidazole' the fish is getting - and 2. Weather metronidazole will treat the problem. Perhaps, for example, you might need praziquantel.

The problem (IMHO) - with a medicated food - no one knows whether the fish is gorging (getting an overdose) - or not eating at all - (an underdose)

Ok, must be a US thing, we cannot get meds in Canada without a script.
We just feed well, high protein high fat content, and lower environmental type stresses, works great, unless your fighting something specific.
Yes unless you're fighting something specific. In Canada - I would get a prescription - but totally agree.

Yes - Kind of like I said - no one knows how much metronidazole is in the flakes - or how much drug the fish is ingesting. OR whether that is the needed drug

Well he ate til his tummy was bulging. Mixed emerald entre, seaweed delight, brine, and a mix of meaty foods we made at reef camp. He did have the nori clip empty when I got home from work, will refill in the am but he is now swimming around the tank. Thanks for all the replies and the help, much appreciated!

I wish they gave a concentration for the Metro - the dose is well known, 0.50%, but it just doesn't say what the dose is. I sent them an email asking about it.....

Tough call on the process. I have a habit of "rescuing" fish from Petco because they have no means of treating a sick fish or a general knowledge of what to do and how to do it. At mine there is a Sailfin that probably has been in a 5 gallon space for 2 months. So going to a bigger tank may help with a nutritional issue. I have done this with a Scopas that was unfortunately too far gone by the time I got to it. But by practice I would set up a QT so could closely monitor and treat. But it looks like the OP made the right call. Petco only feeds pellet or flake and a good percentage of the fish are wild caught, which doesn’t know a pellet of a flake from a hole in the head. Has come from the ocean to spend the last two weeks or less going from a bag to a small space to a bag back to a small space. If a "aquatics specialist " does want to feed Nori or frozen, He needs to damage it out of stock to do so.
So let's give a big cheer for the OP and Sally the Sailfin on a road to good recovery!

Has anyone ever worked deals with petco because of poor fish health ie. try to haggle price
I rescued two fish that were bad. A raccoon butterfly that was covered in Ich and a blue tang that had fin rot and HELLE. Both I got for there cost $10/$20 the Butterfly made a great recovery and I adopted him out. The blue tang is still with us but has some scaring. But I created a relationship with the ppl. that could do that. Most employees can't do that, they are just wheels in a cog.
