So far so good, i have notice some color in corals that i couldnt see before. If i ever want to sell corals then im flipping on just the UV/ Violet channel. That channel just makes everything GLOW!!

Without even using photoshop!!

I did put the UV/Violet channel on a constant on instead of being controlled by the apex jr. I did dim this channel and been using it as a moon light. I will keep i eye on the corals to make there is no ill effect to running this channel 24/7

The only thing I don't know about is having the UV running 24/7. We can always add another driver with all Violet LED's. Lol.

Only time will tell, i do have that channel turned down to around 50%. If i notice anything wrong with running this channel 24/7, then i may rig up some type of desinated moon light instead of using that channel as a moon light.

If u want moonlights look at rapid led its cheap and shipping.is.much faster. Think $25 for a driver and 4 led moonlights. Its what i use and its plenty brighy

Could elaborate a little on if and how you use a controller like apex or rk to dim and control each led controller?
Thanks

I do have a apexjr but for the moment i dont have a vdm module to dim it through the controller. The apexjr is turning on/off the leds as a timer but not dimming.
In the canopy i do have 6 dials to control the 6 different channels. Using a par meter i set the par where i want it using (blue, RB, whites and t5) Then i turn the colors(red/pink,cyan/green, violet/uv) where i like the look.
In the near future i will be getting a vdm module to connect to the leds to do sunrise/sunset and moon phases.

wow amazing i did my kit from aquastyleonline but they were just 24 leds jajaja its for a 20L G im setting up. one thing i didi that i would recommend is putiing a piece of acrilyc nonglare so protect the leds from any spalshing or from the optics falling off( happened to me 2 optics fell inside the tank thanks god it was not the led jaja)

I have a mesh top over the tank so optics may fall off but not into the water.
I personally dont like the look of plexiglass over the leds. With my led design, it be hard to attach plexiglass in a way that wouldnt ruin the craftsmanship that dwilliams and i have done.

Thanks for the tip, im glad you enjoyed the build.

I did a Rapidled build, i cant understand how your heatsinks are takin the heat, mine were on fire before i added a fan to each heat sink, and that was only 18 3w cree leds per 20x4inch heatsink, hopefully you dont burn any out!

I really dont have a true reason behind this, but here are my thoughts...

Im not running any channel at 100%, all channels are at 50-75%.

Im only running them 6 hours a day as a midday sun with the t5s coming on 2 hours early and staying on 2 hours later.

The heatsink does get warm but not hot. i do have 4-4" pc fans inside the canopy that come on when temp goes over 78.2. So with the t5s running and generating heat the fans kick on/off throughout the day.

As i said eariler these are just thoughts and will update this thread if i discover anything different.

Thanks

Greg

Excellent writeup!

I too am perplexed as to why you don't get any more heat. This sounds like something is wrong and the heat is not transferring to your aluminum. Most LEDs have giant heat sinks to dissipate the heat. You have no heat sinks and they are barely warm? I'd get a temp gun and see how hot the LEDs themselves are running.
