Steve's 180 of Madness

Ok. List not all the way knocked out, but close. Gonna finish tomorrow.


- Move Condy nems over to 7' tank
- Move mini maxi over to 7' tank
- get last of corals and macros out of 40b and get them in 7' tank
- get macro from 40b cleaned up some (has some GHA on it)
- replant mangroves (still have not figured that out. May do some small baskets filled with sand and then hide then in the rocks.
- do last h202 dip on scorps and put them in 7' tank
- Nem cannon the sebae nems in the 180 if they are not affixed to the glass under the sand. If on glass, move them to 7' tank.
- Remove t5 from 7' tank and throw up the old kessils on it or throw the kessils back not he 180 and put the hydra 32s on this tank. Not sure yet.
- setup and ato for the 7' tank, so I do not have to top off everyday (it is in my office, so doing everyday is not bad, as mixing station is right next to it lol. But would rather have much more stability)
- setup doing pumps for 7' tank. Will be a monitor for a week and figure consumption first, but want to have doser and lines setup.
- clean up back room. The room is the only part of the house we did not remodel, as it was intended for storage only and was part of the original build in the 1800, then had paneling thrown up in the 70s (paneling was same as in fish barn when it was going). It is now my office, as it is the quietest room in the house.

So, was thinking about the mangroves thing.

Not really a fan of the baskets, so thinking will put sand in the overflow box and plant most of them there. I do have some longer ones that can go in the tank itself, but will keep all of them towards the overflow side of the tank. Plan is to do that and then use a grow light LED fixture for them and mount it to where there is almost no bleed over to the corals and such.

I think after lunch I will play with that idea and see how it works out.

I have always wanted a carpet nem but they get too big for my 34g reef tank and don’t want to risk it eating one of my expensive fish in the 180(soon to be 270). My LFS has a nice red one right now that I drool over every time I’m there.

I have not had many issues with carpets eating fish, besides foxfaces. They seem to really have a taste for nem poop and somehow always get caught lol.

Carpet nems do not actively hunt for fish, so it really depends on the fish. I could not have a tank without a carpet nem, excluding smaller tanks. Although the thought has crossed my mind to do a bio cube with a massive carpet in it and a ton of skunk clowns lol.

I’m right there with you on the adoration of carpet nems! I’ve had multiple through the years in various sized systems. Yes, you are right, it hurts when a fish wanders too close and gets grabbed but I always took the chance knowing that it wasn’t a matter of if but rather when.

That is another thing too. Having clowns that are hosted. When I had my 25+ year old clarkii with the carpets, not a single fish cold get close enough to get caught. They did not wander, except to eat and grab food for the nem. No fish would go close to them, so no fish could get eaten lol.

Yeah, I have an Interruptus Angel and a true Hawaiian Black Longnose tang I got before Hawaii shut down. Not worth risking them fish.

I wish! Sadly husband won’t let me. Actually I’m surprised he’s letting me upgrade from 180 to 270.

Somebody finally found their "perfect spot" love to see them when they are laid flat and digging in. Well, both are finally digging in and snuggled up together.
