I started a 25g nano about 3 months ago and I want some suggestions on fish. Currently I have two clownfish and a helfrichi firefish. The helfrichi is pretty shy and does not swim around much which is pretty irritating and I'm wanting more movement in the tank. I'm planning on getting a citron clown goby but I'm wanting another fish (or two?) that will bring movement and more personality to the tank. Any suggestions???

Why not a couple or trio of clown gobies? And a neon goby along with them.

Or if not small fish how about a basslet? A yellow or black cap would be nice, the blue is nice too but hard to find.

A tail spot blenny is a great fish thats always active and roams around the tank.

I guess I could got more than one clown goby. But don't they not swim around that much cause I want a fish that is active.

I really like blennies and considered the tailspot or bicolor blenny. I think I like the bicolor better. Do you think a bicolor would be a good option?

You can get a clown goby and maybe something else really small like a possum wrasse for movement. But after that I would add anything else.
I was considering a bicolor blenny since I'm not a huge fan of the look of a possum wrasse. Do you think a bicolor would be a good option?

You are mentioning clown or citron gobies. Are you keeping SPS? They do better in tanks with branching type corals especially Acropora.

The clownfish are sort of a challenge in that they will be protective of their spawning area. Something to be aware of.

No reason to be upset with the Helfrichi. It is doing what it does. All fish are different and may not do what others report in a different environment.

Court Jester / Rainford's Goby is one possibility. Also captive bred. Tessellated Blenny is a nice option although reef structure, barnacle group if you have one. Starry Goby - also interesting.

You are working with 25 gallons of raw space not factoring in aquascape, equipment, and so forth so not a lot of options. Searching on "nano fish" will yield some decent results. May not find an open water but something like the Court Jester or Forktail may work. I wasn't going to reply due to the irritated comment because, again, fish are fish and do their own thing...

Hope your day is well.

My bicolor blenny is easily my favorite fish in my nano, they have a lot of personality. They are a perching fish, so although they do swim around, it isn't constantly. They eat quite a bit for their size and will need more than just meat, I mostly feed the frozen Prime Reef from ocean nutrition since it has a good bit of Nori in it. You'll want to make sure it has a hole or some sort of barnacle it can sleep in. He might also perch on your hand if you let him.

Yeah! I had one for a while. I love blennies. My tail spot was on the meaner side and would dart out of his barnacle (which I highly recommend you get they love them) and hit fish who got to close to his home 😂 blennies are awesome

How about a Pajama cardinal? I have on in my 15. Always out and a peaceful cool looking fish.
Just took this as it's always out.

What I meant by active is not hiding and just being out where I can see them
Oh you'd probably love a bicolor blenny then! 😄 If I walk up to the tank, he'll usually come out from wherever he's perched and meet me at the glass. It's kindof neat seeing him turn his stripes on and off too.

No not planning on keeping SPS and only have a few lps in the tank currently. My rock work has many ledges and crevices where a clown goby can perch on or hide in.

I'm not upset with the helfrichi because again I can't control it and it has it's own personality as any fish does. I was just disappointed that I don't see it as often at times. It usually only likes to come out if the lights are dimmed and I turn off all the pumps.

I have considered a forktail blenny but I was worried that my tank might be too small for it. I'm probably going to go with a bicolor or tail spot blenny.

I appreciate your input!!

My aquascape has a lot of holes, crevices, ledges, so it should be good for a bicolor blenny!

Thanks for your opinion!!

You may want ro consider waiting untill your clowns are spawning and let them decide if you can add more fish. They don't stay cute little fish forever and could take over a 25g if they choose. Just some food for thought 😉
I've had my clownfish for about 8 years actually. I'm downsizing and wanted to keep them since they were my first ever saltwater fish. They've been in the nano tank for about 2 months already and have already picked a corner in the tank as their territory. I haven't seen them bug my helfrichi, so I feel like it'll be okay to add another fish at this point.

They are a good option but they aren’t super active.
