Why hasn’t Ecotech made vortechs with a “wet-side” motor?! I love vortechs but now have an AIO peninsula. What I’d give for a wet-side version I could mount on my filtration wall.

Seems very doable, maybe just not enough of a market or need? You could even just innovate the motor side and should still be compatible with drivers and wetside propellers.

IMO the whole idea behind the Vortech was remove the motor from the water and not have cords in the water.
Everybody else makes wavemakers with the motors in the water.

But the cord is out if the display

Op would put the dry side in an aio chamber and keep the display cleaner.

I believe the issue preventing the “dry side” from achieving this, is the size of the dry side
 
I guess I'm not following exactly.
There are Vortechs and these, that I know of.

Right so I have a peninsula All-in-one. I only want powerheads on the filtration wall so that all viewing panels are unobstructed. In that scenario the motor side would sit inside the filtration compartment, aka no cords in the display.
 
From what I've read about ETM lately with all the mergers and stuff in recent years, there have little to no new designs coming.
No research department left.
 
This more just a light hearted complaint, but it does feel like a natural progression that should have / could have happened. I don’t even think much needed to be innovated other than waterproofing the motor side. Should have been a relatively simple problem to solve. My guess is there’s just not a sufficient need to warrant the effort.
 
I just don't see enough of a demand to be worth any investment in designing one. Still going to have a cord in the water only it will come out of the overflow vs the display. Too many pumps that can already be used in the overflow chamber available.
 
How wide/deep is the aio chamber? Could you glue an “open-topped” plexiglass box in the chamber to house the dryside?
 
Just put the powerhead on a side pane and use a aftermarket flow director to help aim the water current. A few companies make them.

They have figured out to make Vortech knock offs. Maybe waterproofing the dry side is next?
 
China can’t even make the wet sides last a year without cracking and rusting. Waterproofing a dry side they can’t just copy is unlikely 😂
