You have some time to think about what corals you want. If you think you might want corals that benefit from more light than consider a better light from the start so you don’t have to upgrade later.
Putting corals on their own rock often helps control their growth. I’m not sure if Clove polyps can detach (I think Xenia can) and spread that way. In a small tank it is easier to remove pests, including overgrown coral, because the whole scale is smaller.

See what equipment these people run and what corals and fish they have that you like. Seeing a bunch of other people’s success will help you ground your decisions.
