Hi,
I am planning to add a Sump to my 20Gal Aquarium. But I am afraid that in case my overflow lost its Siphon, It will flood the Main tank. So I need a float switch that will turn my Return pump off in this event. But I could not find one online. The float Switch that are there are needing modification like have to add a transformer or relay. Can you guys suggest any product which will not need any modification. Help Plz

Maybe an LED sensor of some sort might help? Let's get the [HASHTAG]#reefsquad[/HASHTAG] to lend a hand here.

I am not aware of anything off the shelf.....so it will require a minimal of DIY skill to modify an ATO setup. I think the easiest one to modify is the AquaHub kit. Instead of hooking up the relay with "normally open", you'll want to hook it up as "normally closed.".....very easy to do, just connecting the wires to two different screws on the relay. HERE's a link to that kit.

Now if you want to totally DIY the relay setup, check out THIS little DIY I did.

I use one a aqua pump and I will not lose siphon unless the line clogs. put in a nib to suck out the air, an overflow line in to the overflow and you are off and running

Without a controller (apex, ghl etc) you will need to wire a relay onto your return pump to get it to switch off when the switch flips due to the water level.

If you have something like an apex all you need is a switch like this

Then you can wire it to a breakout box and program it to turn off the return outlet when triggered.

You can use one of these, it's an overflow safety switch with delay start. On a return pump it switches the power off to the pump when the float is closed effectively stopping the flow of water DT and keeping it from over-flowing. The float will need to be mounted to the highest point in the DT as to keep water flowing down the drain but stop the pump when the float is triggered.
