Sump sizing?

New to this forum. Not sure this thread will make it in right place but trying to learn this site. First question is how big should a sump be for a 75 gallon aquarium. Would a 20 gallon be to small?

Yes, a 20g will work; however, I would recommend the largest you can comfortably fit under the stand. Provides more room for equipment and the more overall water volume, the better. Just my opinion.

The bigger the better. Try for lots of room for live rock rubble, and macro algae for pods to grow in. Also try to think ahead, leave yourself plenty of room to expand. You never know when you may want to add that new piece of equipment or try something new.

When making a sump is it better to have a wide tank or a deep. I have a 55 gallon I could use but it's pretty narrow. Believe its 14" wide. I would think a deep tank wouldnt be worth using.

As @dbl stated, what ever fits. In my situation I had to do a remote sump, in a small closet and I built a 22L x 15 w x 15 t and fit my needs. if you have the room for the 55 then use it.

Ok. Will definitely use it. I know the larger the water volume the more stable water parameters. Thanks.
