There are a lot of places to purchase HDPE tanks. I have got mine from Amazon and plasticmart.com. The cone shape in the middle of the sump is my skimmer with the cup removed. Here is a picture of the same sump with the top on and a video that overviews my plumbing system. Let me know if you have any questions.

I'm going with the IceCap 48XL on my 300 gallon build. It's not perfect, but I think it's quite nice for the price.

The biggest issue I see is that the ATO reservoir is built in, which wastes space for me, since I am using Brute containers instead.

I plan to modify it in some way to turn that space into a usable part of the sump.

I also plan to use the larger skimmer compartment as my refugium, since I'm going with an external skimmer.

I'll let you know how it goes.

how did you connect the two breeders

You can see the pipe in the bottom of the photo. Drilled a hole through the side wall in each return chamber (below water level) and just connected the two bulkheads with a section of pipe. I used flex pvc to allow a little wiggle room, you could also use a fernco connector for this purpose. Otherwise it will be hard to get things lined up perfectly and glued Ito place.

How long has that held up for? Ever any leak issues? Seems if you ever got a little movement between the tanks you could spring a leak fairly easily.

I used bulk heads and pvc. Been going strong for 2 years. No issues. You do it right should have no issues.

Nothing seems quite so well suited to DIY than the sump. Next commercial sump I buy will be the first. My current one is an old Oceanic 150 baffled to my specific requirements.

Check out crystalreefaquatics.com. They have sumps up to 83 gallons 60x22x16. The Triton models have large refugiums. They are very nice sumps and they sponsor reef2reef.
@Crystal Reef Aquatics
Thanks for the shout out! All our products are built with Love in the USA! We are also releasing both a Triton and Stealth XL sump that are 72x22x18. They should be live any day now.

@Crystal Reef Aquatics Your sumps are incredible! Way better than the other trigger sumps I was looking at, flawless attention to detail. Im starting a 265 build and based on how much water loss during a power outage I calculated between 8 and 17 extra gallons that need to go somewhere. I was looking at the stealth 44 or 60 and the price on the 44 is much more appealing. I'm trying to save money wherever I can because my wife already wants to murder me and the less I spend on these essentials the faster I can get the tank up and running. I'm trying to be patient and do it right but its hard. If my math is right both should hold the excess water. Would the 44 be sufficient in your opinion? The tank is 84" x 24" x 30" tall. Thanks!

Thank you for the kind words! The 44 is a great choice if it fits all of the equipment that youd like. You shouldn't have an issue if it's a max of 17g. The TRS will have less space for excess water than the SRS due to the high level and size of the refugium. If you can swing it, the 60 is a better fit for a tank that size system. I totally understand the need to keep the wife happy. Feel free to contact me directly to chat in further detail.

I know this is old but did you ever modify this sump? I’m thinking of getting one and doing the same.
