I've had zero issues using Fritz. I've just about finished the box with the new blend (lower Boron, Magnesium, Calcium and Maganese) The old stuff did have high mag, and boron and I'm glad they tweaked the formula. I did a ICP test on my tank and parameters were fine. I have a full blown mixed tank but sps dominant.

Anybody having major spikes in Mag with this? Since I switched over from Red Sea Pro my mag has shot up to 1700 or even higher. I completely stopped dosing mag, which I use to have to dose 6 ml a day. Not sure whats going on but someone else told me they have the same problem.

Those mag numbers are just about where I like my mg, lol.

And I would not use a salt with an alk of 12. If I had wall to wall SPS and dripped in my water change at 1 drop per second maybe.

I appreciate the detailed response from fritz, but I have to agree that my last two batches had 500+ calcium and 1600+ mag. I have switched to aquavitro salinity, which mixes perfectly to it’s advertised parameters at 35 ppt (lab grade conductivity meter).

Switch from red sea to fritz. I'm really happy with fritz.

Shawn,

Thanks. My process is detailed above at some point.

I love how fast fritz mixes up. The price fits my wallet.

As for calibrating the Milwaukee, the manufacturer, they specifically State to use rodi, zero it out and then test.

I spoke to Andy today and advised to do 2c at one time, wait 15 minutes, add another 2 cups (or finish the process). I am getting ready to make a test batch of 5g. Will report the test findings.
Maybe but after I calibrate my milwalkie I use 1.025 calibration fluid to see if it reads correctly and I check the unit periodically. I them cross check it with an optical refractometers and a salinity probe periodically.....

You should also never dump your full load in RODI water all at once.

Always do about 1/2 and mix

Yup, i posted in this thread about a month or two ago. A few of us locally had this issue and nothing ever came of it from Fritz.
My fresh saltwater was mixing up to closer to 1800 Mg. Verified with 3 different test kits.
I even left a sample of the salt and my ro/di water with FJW Aquarium (who mixed it up and got the same high mg results) figuring maybe Shawn would want to have it sent back to him to test, but nothing.
My tank Mg is just now coming down into an acceptable range after switching to standard commercial bags of Red Sea (not the pro version).

Still the best most consistent salt I've used.
I always end up going back to it.

Where do you get the bags of standard Red Sea Salt?

Yes
It has to vary. I purchased my box from an LFS that probably kept the box for awhile or at least weren't selling much. Not to say it wasn't a seller but often times folks stick to other brands. That in mind, if the shop had rearranged the boxes around then letting it settle, elements could have separated. If I gave you the batch number, you could probably date it for me?

Yes I could!

Overall, i'm happy with my current box of RPM. When I first started reefing i choose TMPR and fell in love. Parameters were spot on to specs. I liked the lower 7dkh, 450 ca, 1350 mg. My tank thrived. After that first bucket though, i started getting 6.7dkh, 480ca, 1400 mg. I learned about mixing the bag but it didn't change. So I delt with it. Onto the 3rd bucket(still have it too), I was getting 6.5dkh, 440 ca, 1600 mg. Mixed and mixed and mixed with no resolve. Eventually, I was tired of the high mag. so i switched to Red Sea blue bucket. This time parameters were spot on but the mag was 1200. This was okay because I needed to lower my mg. THEN, I had to start dosing magnesium. That was all fun for about 2 months. Dose, test, dose, test. Forget that! Found out about Fritz, and so far I'm happy.

ok. So, I made up 5g.

2.5 cups brought it to 1.025. This tested at 8.6/440/1400.

Now on my Milwaukee digital, I have been mixing until PPT = 35. at 1.025, the PPT is 33. So, I am wondering if the problem was that I was mixing to the PPT scale, and not the SG scale?

The thing that I don't understand is that on their website they list this:
35 ppt (1.025 sg)

I didn't think that is a correct conversion.
