I’m not really experienced with tangs, however, I had a lawnmower blenny bully a domino damsel and bite it until it went off eating and wasted away. That infected spot on the skin looks a lot like the bite marks the lawnmower blenny left on the damselfish it may have went off eating due to bullying. Someone more knowledgeable on the subject will suggest a treatment but watch for aggression after lights out I’d bet on it being a tank mate.

Evening,

It does look like an injury. I know you say water is perfect, but can’t hurt to give numbers.

@Jay Hemdal may be around tonight to help.

Looks like an injury or scrape and that it is malnourished. Unfortunately being malnourished means it's immune system isn't the greatest and a scrape can turn into an infection.

Tangs need to eat a lot and should look like fatties! If you are sure you feed enough then it could be an internal parasite.

I would be feeding LRS and Nori soaked in selcon to start, several times a day, try to get it eating good. You may need to remove to a QT tank if that turns into an infection/spreads.

One thing - was there a salinity rise between the 60 and the 90? Marine fish can handle a drop in salinity very well, but any rise can cause them to dehydrate. This results in a fish suddenly looking "skinny". If that wasn't the issue, then the fish is malnourished to the point where it has probably utilized its liver tissue for energy. That tissue cannot be regrown, so these fish, even if they begin feeding again, often die....sorry.

The spot itself looks like a minor injury, so I think you should address the malnutrition issue first.

Jay

When did you add the fish? Did you put in QT before hand? When was the last time you saw him eat and what?
