Tang not eating

Not really sure of what to make of this. I have a tang that is in QT with a black cap and a leopard wrasse.

I did CP treatment. No issues pest wise. I have no spots what so ever.

However, I did have a small bout with ammonia and finally got it under control. The tang seems to have a few red veins/marks and same with the leopard. Black cap doesn't have anything apparent.

I'm currently dosing Furan-2 in case of bacterial issue.

Problem is, everyone is eating except the tang. I've tried frozen mysis, Brine, cyclops, LRS, and live brine. I see him pick at things on the floor but don't ever see him actively eating. It's been two weeks. He doesn't seem to be losing weight and he definitely ate frozen mysis the first day in QT.

I've tried soaking food with selco.

Water changes are being performed about 30% daily now because of furan 2 directions.

SG was at 1.028. Working on bringing it down.

Where do I start? Fish's skin does seem a little wrinkly on top of the red lines. No scratching.

The red veins/marks could be from the high salinity. I would try to get it down to 1.026 over the next 6 - 12 hrs.

The appetite suppression could be from the meds, especially the nitrofurazone. Although I'm :eek: that the Leopard is eating in CP. If I were you I would transfer all your fish (especially the tang) into a non-medicated HT for further observation. Like doing a tank transfer.

Leopard was almost unaffected during cp. technically went to five day rounds since I had high ammonia after day three and needed to do back to back changes to get it down. I managed 1.026 today and will work down to 1.024 by tomorrow.

I didn't see that you had tried Nori for the tang. I have some tangs at the store that wont eat anything except Nori (algae) for a while, then they eventually start eating frozen as well.

I had nori in the tank on a clip for about 30 minutes. I pulled it after that because I was afraid of polluting the water. Should I retry it? Can I leave it for a day without nutrientnisdues?

I would try small amounts (Like 1/4 of what you might want to put in there) and leave it in there for a few hours at least. If it's not being eaten after that, then remove it and try again the next day. Keep trying and move them into a non-medicated tank like Humble suggested.

I placed only 1" by 4" slice. So I'll put smaller.

As for non-medicated tank, This is the only QT I have. I think that my leopard and black cap should be ready for display. So, I'll move them and hang on to the tang and removed meds. I've seen no disease on any aside from the recent red marks on the tang and decided to medicate the group.

Probably best to keep the tang and the wrasse in QT since they are both showing signs of the red marks. Just for now anyway.

For now. Watch that redness closely. Try to get the tang eating without the meds. As soon as he does, start the furan 2 back up again. Hopefully he starts eating quickly for you.

+1 on the nori. You could also try a small piece of lettuce, from my experience the appeal is usually the same and lettuce "shouldn't" be as much of a nutrient contributor as the nori. Good luck!

Red nori most tangs find irresistible. Live brine and live blackworms will entice a tang with even a little spunk to eat

I'm fairly new to this hobby but what I found that works is garlic. You don't need to buy the aquatic stuff I just had minced garlic in a jar. I drained the juice and used that. I fed my tang like that a couple of time. Now my tang will devour anything without the garlic.

Is the belly area pinched
I would put nori on a frag plug with a rubber band on it the type used for braces and if he doesn't eat it in a day switch it out to a new piece use a square inch wrapped around the skinny part of the plug tangs like grazing seaweed they sometimes don't see it as seaweed when it's just floating there this mimics seaweed on a rock

Belly doesn't look pinched. Visually, the only issues I see is that his skin has wrinkles and is wavy.

I did a 5gal water chAnge and hung a 1"X1" piece of nori in the tank. Planning more water changes tonight. Water in the tank is 1.026 SG.

I did not redose the furan 2. Here's two photos. It's hard to get got photos of him as he hides and runs when I come to the front of the tank.
Also, he shows interest in food but I don't see him actually eating it.

I can't see the red marks you were talking about in these pictures. Are they visible and I'm just not looking in the right place?

They're not visible in the photos. It's a red vein just over the eye. It's on each side and another small on on his face.

In the second photo you can see the red mark on the head of the wrasse. You can see the skin condition in the second photo posted. Almost like raised lines that run verticals.

The skin condition looks to be in the ribs of the tang (skinny because its not eating)
Don't change too much water do up to half at a time you don't want to stress them out more than you have to
Are usually don't quarantine leopard wrasses because they usually don't do well and they sleep in substrate but you seem to have it eating
I can't seem to see the red marks is it possible that these red marks are coming from banging in to the glass

Try garlic with the food (as someone mentioned before it does open up their appetite)
It could be the quarantine is stressing it out enough that he is not eating do they have pipes elbows etc (places to hide) in the tank
