Has anyone had any experience mixing tangs and multiple tangs of the same subspecies? Anyone had any of these tangs in a reef tank? Any notes of aggression?

There will be some aggression but it'll mainly be based on the size of the tank.
I've kept an Achilles with a Fowleri in a 100g tank and they were fine. I currently have a Purple, Yellow, Clown & Powder Blue in a 180g but the Powder Blue is coming out. He's always been the bully but has gotten obnoxious at this point.

I wouldn’t keep multiples of the same species but if added in batches and the nastier acanthurus tangs are added in the last batch I imagine your chances are optimized.

It is a 280 gallon tank. I was planning to add them all at once and with a similar size

So I gather from that they should be fine as long as I as them together and of similar size. Please, correct me if I am wrong. It's a280 gallon reef that I have on order. With plans for blennies, clowns, wrasse, Anthias, a pair of Watanabei Angels and a pair of blue throat and cross hatch triggers.

I have a purple, whitetail bristletooth and an Achilles in the same tank currently. I also have a Gem and a Powder blue/ Goldrim Hybrid in the same tank. It can be done but it’s not without lots of planning and problem solving.

How did you get away with this? Did you add them all at the same time and similar size? I really want to make all of these in the same tank, but i do not know the best way

I did it in 2 groups. The purple and the PB/hybrid went in first. The Gem is much smaller than the Purple plus I’ve had the purple for a long time and knew it was very docile. IME bristletooth tangs are usually ignored by Acanthurus and Zebrasoma. Getting the Achilles and the PB to coexist was much harder than I expected and I had to separate them via egg crate for over 2 months. They could see each other and eventually they have accepted the fact that they live together. On occasion they chase each other a bit but they tolerate one another. There a bunch of tricks you can use but if you have the ability the best method is usually adding them all at once. I highly suggest QT because well tangs.

The biggest question is what size is the tank going to be? Huge difference between sticking all that in a 100-125 gallon tank vs a 300-400 gallon tank. Zebrasoma are pretty aggressive and the Purple can be a downright jerk (so can it's obnoxious cousin, the Yellow Tang).

I have a Kole, Yellow, Purple and Powder Brown and they’re all model citizens. They’re currently in a 125 but plan on moving them into a 240 in about a months time. Yellow and Kole went in together, they were best friends. Powder brown went in next after getting him through QT and making sure he was an aggressive eater. Same thing with the Purple. Initially there was some aggression but was gone over night. Now the kole and my starry Blenny... different story

I have a Sailfin, yellow and Kole and they are all doing fine in the tank. I introduced the Kole first and a couple of months later, I introduced the Sailfin and yellow at the same time. My LFS gave me some advice to go to the dollar store and get some cheap plastic mirrors. Put them in the tank before putting the tangs in so the Kole will get distracted by it and think there are other tangs in the tank. It worked and all three tangs are coexisting fine in the tank.

With a 280 that config could work. I would add them at the same time though.

I love tangs. I have a purple tang, yellow tang about the same size as purple, bristle tang, mustard tang, sail fin tang and a hippo tang. Purple is by far the most aggressive one. My suggestion is introduce to the family at the same time, add them at the same time. Otherwise, any new tang added later may get in trouble
