@Paul B I haven't been keeping up, but what's the plan for moving the tank? I'd seriously come help you if I didn't live 20 hours away. ;) It would be like moving a piece of history.

I have a plan but unfortunately not a very good plan, but a plan none the less.

I plan to build a stand and buy a new 125 gallon tank with a UG filter and set it up in the new house. ( they won't let me in until I close) Then come back here 60 miles, with a lot of tubs and buckets and bring everything to the new house. Leave the fish in the tubs with a heater while I go a mile to the beach and rinse out my gravel in the ocean. Then drive back and throw it in the new tank with NSW that I will get at the same time. Heat it up, throw in more gravel and dump in any fish and corals that are still alive.

Of course if I have to get out of here and my new place isn't finished, I will see how long fish and corals can live in a cardboard box down by the river.

If that happens, they will probably get a combination of ich, velvet and mono nucliosis and people will be telling me to fresh water dip them while I am adding prizapro, coppersafe, hydrogen peroxide and stump remover while I raise the temperature to just below boiling and get out the chicken bones.

So Bobby, I need you here.

@Paul B Just don't stir up any sand when getting the NSW, that's where the tomonts like to hang out. ;)

And I would upgrade to a 180... What's 6 more inches?

The 180 is easy, its the extra sea water I will have to hump up a hill. I am moving near the sea so I won't need ASW any more.
A 125 should be fine. My other problem is that I don't have a tank sitter there so I am not sure how I will handle trips. My fish are not that keen on flakes

But Bobby, there is no one else in the world that I would trust my fish to but you. Did you ever think of moving to New York? There is one more condo left. :p

No problem, you can even use my boat. :p

It comes with a fully stocked bar and 4 Ladies.

It has come to my attention that some of my posts are harmful to Noobs. A Member on here kindly PMed me to say that as some Noobs seem to be using "parts" of my theory and thinking their fish will become immune. That ain't gonna happen so don't do it. I also always say that Noobs should not do what I do. I am very old, very bald and have been making mistakes at this for 60 years.
Some of the things I do I am not even positive if it is helpful or detrimental.

I use Ozone for water conditions which probably does not work since my parameters are horrible. I just use it because I think it's cool and I always used it. If it breaks i am not sure I will fix it. I have been without for a few months and I see no difference.

My tank is also very healthy and some of that comes about through age. A new tank will never be healthy, like never because the bacteria, mulm, viruses, algae etc, take years to settle down to where they help us rather than hurt us. A 5 year old tank is new.

I do add things from the sea and parasite riddled fish, Don't do that. My tank is and always has been an experiment. Someone has to experiment so let it be me and not you. For now, go with the established "Wisdom" and don't experiment. My ways will be hashed out many years after I croak and they dump me in the sea so be careful what you do. If you want to ask me something. PM me but I may not give you the answer that you want to hear.

Have a great and healthy day. :D

Well stated

Paul, nothing exciting to say, but wanted to drop by and say HELLO! Always enjoy reading your thread, and catching up on the latest! :) Good of you to take the time to clarify things for the newbies!

Scuba, I am getting yelled at so I wanted to clarify some things.
Noobs, don't read anything I say.
Were you saying something? ;Wideyed

Were you saying something? ;Wideyed

No, it wasn't a Mod. A member on here informed me that I may be hurting Noobs because they feel I run my tank so different, or weird that Noobs may follow me and try to immitate me which would not be good as they don't have the experience and they may only try a few of the things without fully understanding exactly what I am doing. I keep saying Noobs should not follow a lot of the things I do and it is in the first few pages of my book.
The reason I named my book "The Avent-Garde Marine Aquarist" is because the defination of Avent Garde is.

The avant-garde (/ˌævɒ̃ˈɡɑːrd/);[1] from French, "advance guard" or "vanguard", literally "fore-guard")[2] are people or works that are experimental, radical, or unorthodox with respect to art, culture, or society.[2][3][4] It may be characterized by nontraditional, aesthetic innovation and initial unacceptability,[5] and it may offer a critique of the relationship between producer and consumer.[3]

The avant-garde pushes the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm or the status quo, primarily in the cultural realm. The avant-garde is considered by some to be a hallmark of modernism.

It does not mean "All Noobs should Follow This Advice" for a reason.

But no matter how many times I say that or post it or put it in a book I am accused of miss guiding Noobs. I have actually gotten a lot of PMs and before that Letters about that.
But not everyone in this hobby is a noob and not all advice is for Noobs.

I would rather not put in the front of all the things I do that this is for Noobs, this is for people who have been at this for 12 years or 40 years just like all advice for anything we do in any field. I try to say that often but it is really up to the reader to decide if they are experienced enough to accomplish something. I also try to add pictures and history of the things I do and ho I came about that way of thinking. I also don't have to prove my ways, I think I am quite beyond that.

But I appreciate people telling me my faults as I have many and know that I have a big mouth and can be and many times are wrong.

That particular member believes that my tank is immune because of my ozonizer. I disagree and invited him to this thread or start another thread to talk about it.
Thats what these threads are for.

Paul, I've only been keeping fish in glass boxes for a bit more than 50 years (only 10-ish have been salt water) and I need to know if I am still a noob. I only ask because I'd like to be able to follow some of your practices, but if I'm a noob, then I won't be able to.

Can you please tell me if I'm a noob.

Thank you.
Yours truly,
Confused

You guys are all Noobs as far as I am concerned.

I use some practices that I won't even mention on here so they don't commit me.

There’s always more than one way to do things. I’m envious of your creativity when it comes to reef keeping. If I can just make one feeder, as you have, for my fish I would be proud. It seems most people give up within 5-10 years but you’re like an “artifact” around here. [emoji13] That should speak for itself.

I think most people who follow you have seen the many times you point out that your methods aren't for people new to the hobby. It could even be assumed that is the case when the people who have the most luck with it are you, Atoll, Lasse, and Gweeds. Not exactly the rookies on the forum.

I think your ozonizer helps, but there are lots of people who run them that have had tank wipes.
