3Zreefer, I don't worry about parasites. They are a natural part of the sea and healthy fish fed correctly living in a natural tank set up correctly with the right size hiding places where the fish can feel secure won't be bothered by any parasites.

It is when we artificially try to kill the parasites or medicate or quarantine the fish that we stress them lowering their ability to have their immune system take care of the parasites.

Fish are not a creature that needs to be coddled. They are perfectly capable of dealing with parasites as long as we allow them to.

If our fish get sick, it's because we allowed them to get sick by not providing the correct conditions and IMO very few fish are few correctly with living bacteria or safe places to hide.

Tbrown, I see you have a rifle. I have a similar picture of me over 55 years ago in Nam. Of course thats an M-16 but I built that 30 round magazine from parts from crashed helicopters, tape and wire.

I don't remember how I got the spring to work. Thats all I had in the jungle but the thing worked perfectly and I could fire 30 rounds fully automatic.

Then the thing got so hot I had to wrap a sand bag around it to hold it. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

^^^What he said. ^^^
Fish have no medication in the sea and they only have a couple of doctor fish or shrimps to pick off external parasites.

Excellent story with a great picture!

@tbrown3589 - you were addressed three posts above this one. (Tagged him for you, Paul, as there is a chance he’s not following your thread.)

Crusso there is an entire plethora of people that don't follow my thread. An unimaginable, uncountable, immense throng of people that don't read even a punctuation mark that I post.

I barely even read it, But it's all good. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

I Am not trying to suck up but reading your book was one of the best things I did in this hobby. Their loss. I absolutely agree with your feed them right, house them right and let nature make them stronger approach. After all isn't that what we humans should do too? Or should we quarantine each newly arriving human in copper?

@atoll @Paul B Thank you so much! Is there a way to add micro fauna that my WT’d fish need? I’m slowly converting to feeding live foods. Ordered some black worms and such. I’d like to put back in them what they need to have a long, string successful immune system. -Sorry btw, I am sick with this weird head cold, and I am late to the response as I have been mostly sleeping this week. But I truly appreciate all the I advice! Found strength to go to Amazon and order the book.

IMO it starts with live rock and continues with the foods we feed both live and frozen to some extent.

Be careful 97% of the dribblings I post have nothing to do with fish, inverts, trees or almost anything else loosely associated with almost anything important .

I got a call from the Gidians. The people who put bibles in hotel rooms. They want Amazon to stop printing my book because they are running out of paper to print the bible so they can now only print the old testament and not much past How Adam and Eve started their first reef tank in the Garden of Eden and how they only had half eaten apples to feed their fish. :confused-face:

3Zreefer. When I went to a LFS and buy something I used to ask for some of the "stuff" living in the dark corners of their invert sumps. That "mulm" is full of all sorts of good stuff.

Not the fish tanks as that will have copper or whatever else they use to poison, I mean medicate the fish. Just ask them to suck up some stuff out of there.

How do you know I am old? :anguished-face:

Try some prizapro in a spray bottle. .....Hope you feel better soon and don't get uronema. :)

Thanks! Getting there. I see the light at the end of this tunnel.

I have a baby Naso in observation- it is placed in a 20 gal long with power heads going and my tank water. 0 on both nitrites and ammonia. (Not surprised) I have a 200 gal. With all corals at the moment. It’s about a year old.

Backstory on baby Naso- The LFS said they were in Copper and Prazi. (He did receive a formalin bath - placed in water with dewormer and metro) I know- it’s a hot mess I must admit. But that’s when I remembered your methods and got him slowly into fresh non- medicated cycled tank water. I’m running him in just pure saltwater. No meds.

This lil guy is breathing rapidly and is displaying sign of high stress due to dark almost black coloring. Laying in its sides. I get your book delivered Monday. Right now I just winging it. I left him alone, a light is on but indirect to the tank and the tank is covered slightly to darken and possibly reduce stress. Anything else you suggest? I hope and pray he pulls though. It’s going on day 4 for him.

3Zreefer, unfortunately fish stores have to put fish through some meds because they need to keep them alive long enough to sell them. Then when you get them, whatever diseases that fish had comes out of remission because the fish was infected, like just about all fish are, and the meds suppress it so you don't see it. That fish doesn't have much immunity left due to the meds and the fact that it is so young so it may not pull through. Copper, Prizapro, de-wormer and formalin are all poisons by themselves but together that would kill an elephant. Your tank is also pretty new. It sounds like it may be to late to save that fish so all you can do is wait or you may want to put that fish back into just copper even though that is totally against my better judgement but at this point there isn't much to do unless it is eating. If it's eating, I would just wait. (but it doesn't look good and we can't save every fish.)

Poor thing. Ok, I will put it back into copper. I hope that helps him pull through. It’s beginning to feel depressing- this QT stuff. I am so looking forward to no more of it but it’s tough with the retailers. Your method really adds light in this darkness and I can’t wait to fully step into it. Thanks for such a quick response!

Ok, Baby Naso is back in therapeutic copper. Will update you on condition later!
