TDO Chromaboost not Chromaboosting

Apologies for the horrendous title. I couldn’t help it.

I was worried the anthias wouldn’t touch the pellets, but the real curveball was the large orange shoulder tang.

Although I offered both medium and large sizes, the orange shoulder hasn’t consumed either. In perspective, even the small lyretail ate the large pellet size (with a bit of a struggle, but got it down).

Do you think it’s a lost cause? Will my OST (orange shoulder tang) eventually eat it?

Also, is TDO Chromaboost nutritionally complete for a marine fish’s diet? @Reef Nutrition

I don’t see trace element, supplements, or minerals added in the ingredients list like other competitors. Is this food more like a treat?

I guess I am missing the joke or intent of the post. On the other hand if it is a serious question food vs treat it is food.

I’ll try to clear it up.

The title was tongue-in-cheek. It’s a little playful because I assumed TDO was very palatable to fish. A few of my fish didn’t want to eat it initially.

I wondered if TDO was more of a “treat” vs a staple of a healthy diet because of the lack of vitamins in the ingredient list. My concern was alleviated once I realized the vitamins and minerals occur naturally in the ingredients of TDO.

All my fish eventually decided to eat it — It’s all I feed as of now.

Thanks for the clarity.

In my use case I've found that most of my fish will eat it. If someone doesn't then there is another dry pellet in the mix that they will. I mix TDO x-small, small, PE Mysis, and a couple of different Hikari for carnivore and herbivores. This is hourly, small portions. Works for all of my fish sizes and works great for captive bred upon arrival. Larger and faster fish go for the larger pellets or their favorite and the smaller gobies get the x-small since it is often missed or ignored.

Then again I also feed 2 small frozen portions rotating through various mixes LRS nano, fish, reef, PE calanus, mysis, brine, and Live Aquari's mixes.

Oh - they also get red, green nori sheets throughout the week and live macro algae.

I think Reef Nutrition recommends keeping TDO in the fridge. I can't remember if that is unopened or opened after use. I keep mine in there anyway.

Randall the yellow tang is eating Chromaboost. Maybe I should remove “all” and add a “y” at the end. He’s a good fish.

The natural progression seems to be ignore pellet > taste and spit > consume.
Glad to hear they came around! They can sometimes be picky as they explore new environments but will always go back to eating pellets when available.

So I have some of this same food. It’s pretty much always been in the fridge. It’s a couple months expired. Should it still be good? How far past expiration is generally considered ok?

Maybe shoot reef nutrition a message off their portal or via email and see what they say? That is what I would do personally.

My Bangai cardinals wont eat it. They’ll occasionally take a pellet but then spit it out. They only like frozen and live. I’ve tried soaking the pellets in the juice from frozen but it rarely fools them.

This week my Rainford’s goby suddenly discovered they were food and now eats the extra small TDO. Only took him a year to figure it out. Since he was captive bred I really expected him to take pellets from the get go. 🤔

Some day out of the blue your fish may finally decide to eat the pellets.

Even if the TDO is nutritionally complete I still feed a variety of frozen, live, and other pellets. Variety can’t hurt.

My Banggai won’t eat it or any other pellets either. I thought I’d get lucky since it was a captive bred cardinal, but that little sucker only eats frozen. My damsels will now eat the TDO just fine. As far as I know, they’re wild, and they prefer pellets to frozen. Crazy fish!

My cardinals are captive bred, too. Picky guys, it seems.

I Have 4 Banggai Cardinal a Royal Gamma and a Fire fish in my recently cycled tank (3 wks ago). Just waiting for the bacteria to keep up w? the increased bioload. So, far all parameters are stable w? Nitrate and Phos lowering daily. GHA is dying off and CUC doing a great job of clear cutting it like lost Amazon rainforest.

My issue is my picky Banggai, they mouth and spit out any dry food. They even pass on some of the commercialy prepare frozen cube mixtures. Frozen Mysis shrimp they attack, other pellets and even small prepared foods are mouthed and spit out. I asked to see them eat at my LFS...they hit it like pirranhas on a bleeding cow.

I even tried not feeding the tank for a day with no luck. Anybody have an idea?

My captive bred Banggai won’t touch anything but frozen brine, mysis, or chopped clams. I really thought being captive bred would help…
