Tech you would splurge on.

I've been piecing together my Hydros Collective recently and I love it! I think getting a couple of better Hydros controllers instead of pieceworking smaller controllers together would be what I'd look at if I were to do it all over again.

Flow. It is one area I will not use or recommend the cheap stuff.

Water chemistry, flow, lighting and in that order
You can't buy chemistry, but I agree on spending the proper amount of money on lighting and flow.

What lights would you splurge on?
I happen to have the Reefbreeders Meridians on my tank and they perform very well. That said, there are many great lights out there to choose from and a ton of information on R2R on light performance. What you intend to grow will determine your needs on lighting and flow.

That's funny, because my Reefbreeder Meridians were one of the things I splurged on. 😆

I've been in the hobby for over 50 years and I just bought an Alkatronic Pro. I had been waiting to see if there would be a Triton gen 2 but that doesn't look likely.

The Meridians look like a great design and RB are a proven light vendor. I read a review elsewhere that found they have a center hot spot. I think that's a common issue and not unusual with many of the major brand LED lights.

They do, but that has allowed me to keep high light demanding SPS in the middle of my reef, and lower light demanding SPS and LPS on the edges.
