Thanksgiving!

When me and my wife go together 20 l YEARS ago she was use to doing all of the cooking for TDay. Our first Thanksgiving I did the turkey, yams potatoes she did the pie and salads and appetizers. She was so grateful. She said for the first time it wasn't a chore. Sounds like a great day planned for you
Yeah it's nice to have a team effort. I toyed with making a few pies myself but it turned out I just didn't have time. Too much prep work. I guess I could've done the pies on Tuesday, but I just would have eaten them!

So in the US it's Thanksgiving this Thursday. What are you planning for dinner?. Our house hold has not served a traditional T Day dinner for a few years now as we all agree that turkey was no one's favorite. This year we plan a seafood buffet Cajun style. Just curious if others have made the same changes. There will be 11 people at our table all excited about dinner.
make that 12, I'm starting my drive there ;-)

We are packed this week with thanksgiving stuff
Wednesday is my parents thanksgiving (driving down Monday). Small thanksgiving since I don’t have many people on my side of the family
Thursday is thanksgiving with my wife’s moms side of the family
Friday thanksgiving with wife’s dads fanily
And Saturday is friends giving with one of our close friends and his wife.
All this to say, super thankful to be able to spend all this time with our friends, and family
glad I'm staying home. cooking a breast only. during the cook, I give the kids a 2k piece lego Christmas house and let them watch the parade during. seems to control the tension. just made some stairs in the back yard to the imaginary mound of snow. Friday temps drop and the snow starts flying. ;-)

I'm boycotting it this year. I have plenty to be thankful for but the family has a lot of stuff going on right now so we're passing on a get together. For years I used to be the designated turkey fry guy. I would make a spicy concoction using chicken broth and inject the bird with it. It made the most delicious and moist turkey I've ever eaten.
A blast from turkey past

never tried frying one.

Thanksgiving day my wife works, so if the weather holds I will be on my kayak fishing on thanksgiving. However, we will do the big dinner with her family Friday. My side of the family live about 5 hours away and we only make that trip ever other year. We do the traditional with her family, but the stuffing is from scratch by her grandma, and we fry the turkey, rather I fry the turkey. Then some of the best pecan pie ever made by my wife. My wife will also make the mash potatoes, when we got married we shared our secrets with each other and between the two of us, we make some mean mashed potatoes.

Best bird I've ever had was deep fried and at 64yo I've had a lot of birds. I was the first in the family to do one so I became the family fry guy. Everyone liked it so well I had overwhelming requests so we had turkey for Xmas also.

I've been doing the "Ronco" set it and forget it rotisserie when I do it myself now. I love that thing. free's up the stove for the extra stuff.

I used to not care about driving. now....30 minutes is too far.
Kind of amazing how that happens. Age really makes one a homebody. At least it does for me. I really left all of my close friends in Enumclaw when I moved to Shelton. Never made another friend base (except at work of course) and my In-Laws who all live here. When I had kids it was all over. I'd say that right now, my best friends are my wife, my son and my daughter. And I'm satisfied with that. This may change tho. I'll be forced to socialize next May when a coworker is done with a D&D Adventure. She's creating it right now. I've been invited to be one of the BIGGEST geeks in the world and play this game again.

I wish I liked fried turkey. I have tried for years to like it but have never been a fan of it. Maybe this year will be different???

That's so fun! I love that idea.

I'm the macaroni maker in my family, so I'll be making roughly 20 lbs of mac and cheese by the end of the week...Between @Gumbies R Us family and mine, there are quite a few people to feed. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I do the old fashion deep fried turkey every year. Emeril's Cajun recipe is the base ;)
