wow its color really is popping in this picture
It does, and it’s interesting as very few Trimma gobies have colours that aren’t red, white and brown.

Well the two trimmas seem to not want to come out of their cave after having one on guard one doing something in there. So here’s a photo I had to take as I had the chance.

Random is the perfect title of this thread! From fish lover to softy/lps, to inverts…and now acropora! :D

Love this! I’m proud of this thread!
haha, it's been an absolute rollercoaster! Wonder what's next, probably going to end up down a different whacky road

The more I watch these guys the more intriguing I find their behaviour. It seems they prefer to be out early in the morning then hide when lights hit their peak then come out later at night. I think when the naoko or BSLW come out of the tank I’ll replace them with a pair of possibly Trimma cana as this whole genus is beautiful.

I figured this deserved its own post. I cant believe that when this guy went in he was a 2 head coral and looked like he was on his last legs.
The polyps are extended on the hammer so here’s a few photos of it:

I mean, look at this and tell me he you’d expect him to make a come back - This was his polyps fully extended I’m pretty sure. It’s come a long way since then!

P.S. Ignore the messed up dog ball - My two are terrors with tennis balls - it was purely for a size comparison :)

Gorgeous!

What parameters do you keep? Mainly Alk, phosphates, temperature, and how strong are your lights?
Actually, I’ll check them now as I have been meaning to this week :)

Phosphates: usually .045 but are now .11
Magnesium: 1440 (Usually around 1440)
Calcium: 480 (Usually around 470-490)
Kh: 10.4 (Usually around 9-8)
Nitrates: 3
Ph: 8.0-7.8
Lighting - My PAR is unknown however this is my schedule (one RS LED 50).

Dang. You are keeping high alk and lower lights I believe! That’s Dana Riddle’s recipe to turbocharge photosynthesis: increase growth rate (the last piece of the recipe is high flow). High flow, lower lights (around 200 par I believe) and high alk.

I usually maintain my alk around 8dkh, but I think it’s at 9dkh right now. My lights are super strong (around 400par) but my growth is nonexistent. I’m going to follow you because you obviously know what you’re doing!

That’s interesting to hear lower par is a good move to increase growth, I keep getting told it’s the opposite, you’ll get better colours though once they manage to take off!

That’s true. You need to choose between the 2: faster growth will lead to browner colors and better colors results in slower growth.

Since I am dealing with frags, I think starting with faster growth is better and then once they grow out I can switch to focus on coloration. :)

Yeah, I think that’s what route I’ll take. I’ll focus a lot more on growth then get a few frags moved into my 4’ tank to colour up and then hopefully get some great frags to sell off - Usually I think spending 100s on a frag is ridiculous but if you think of the bigger picture it really isn’t too bad.

Not a great photo however I saw this guy out, I watched him for a while then looked into the food pot to spot some extras/leftovers so I figured I’d feed the nano some more as everyone was still out. I watched this guy some more and I was surprised to see him eating.

I think both eat frozen however the issue is how they both seem to be nocturnal and so they either eat late at night or early in the morning (7pm-5am).

Well this is interesting, I woke up this morning to catch them out rather late into lights on. I wonder if they start to come out more as they get established (Which does make sense as they’re a shy species).

A FTS from today, the tank is coming along nicely and coral growth is great! I may finally have a tank growing SPS :D
F5EE9207-8CC2-45FD-9716-FCBBFE3B436A.jpeg

It’s not visible in the FTS however I did find this interesting life. My A. yongei is growing nicely and is stunning (as always). I did however find this strange life growing next to the base of him. Nothing like the coralline I’ve ever seen and actually it’s only a recent thing as this wasn’t in the tank previously. Any ideas? It’s two bright, in your face red and orange patches.
