They are interesting fish, I like the look of the Coral Beauty with those yellow tints.

Just got a new Red Sea Regal angelfish and wanted to share. Emperor, regal and goldflake!
Congrats? I just got a Maldives Regal on Tuesday.

Ever since my big fish wipeout, I do a medicated quarantine of all new fish. 30 days of CooperSafe at 2.3 ppm and three treatments of Prazi.

My blueline angel. Had him for 6-7 years so far.

This will always remain a dream fish for me, and that photo just shows why I love them! Their blue lines are so reflective it’s like no other fish I’ve seen.

Can a Goldflake or a Majestic, maybe both, be kept in a 120g for life?
Ive had my Majestic for well over a year now (I got her in January 2024). She was maybe 2-2.5 inches, not the biggest adult I could’ve gotten, but in that time she’s gone from 2.5 inches to 3.5-4 inches, so almost doubled in size. So, for a Pomacanthus this is one slower growing species, the largest I’ve seen grown out from juvenile was maybe 6 inches, possibly just only into the 7-8” range. But that was a good 15 year old fish at least.

Assuming I am still good with remembering sizes, a 120 is either a tall 4 foot or a shallow 5 footer.
If it’s a 4 foot, a majestic will work, but you will have to ensure you have big caves and arches that they can swim right through.
I mean, this was my 4 foot 100G when I housed both a Regal Angel, Majestic Angel and Flameback Angel (unfortunately I lost the Regal almost a year ago now due to a QT incident).

And my Majestic when I first got her;

I did also upgrade to a 5 foot 180G tank just over a year ago (the week after Easter 2024), and as you can see I’ve kept the larger arch ways and caves, but moved a lot of the rockwork further to the back of the tank - I do need to get an updated FTS, but this is a few weeks ago :)

I did however, get a 4th angel on Sunday!
I used to love the goldflakes as juveniles, but then I saw an 8” adult and well, quite quickly fell out of love with it. But then, last week possibly the nicest relative of the Goldflake was given into my LFS, and it’s got the colour without the expense. So, as you can imagine, I saw just how golden it was and decided that I would grab the Flagfin Angel (Apolemichthys trimaculatus). So… here she is residing in my 5 foot system (with 3 other angels and 16 or so wrasses).

And how could I not show off my other 2 angels? My two dwarf angels - the Multicolour Dwarf (Centropyge multicolour) and my African Flame Back (Centropyge acanthops), the acanthops is my most aggressive fish in the tank.

Congrats on the flagfin angel!

@i cant think Do you think a Majestic would likely top out about 6” max in a 4 foot tank? Congrats on the Flagfin and all your Angels are looking great. I think I recalled you saying large Angels like the Majestic, Regal, and I guess now your Flagfin aren’t all that active swimmers?

And what made you reconsider a Goldflake? 8” that’s a huge one.

Yes! Tangs are much more active swimmers and I think many people imagine the same for many of the Angels we keep. But I find Angels just glide around (much like Rabbitfish and Foxfaces in that sense) rather than pace heavily from one side of the tank to another in just a few flaps of their fins. I’d say it’s likely a Majestic will get to 6 inches in a 4 footer, however it would take years.

Oh, the with goldflakes, I see juveniles that are anywhere from 1 inch to 3 inches and they’re a stunning yellow colour, but the adult I saw was just a really dull brown/yellow colour and didn’t look anywhere near as impressive as the juveniles when it comes to colour.
Plus, I often see juvenile flagfins looking nicer than goldflakes, I’ve just not found a maturer specimen with quite the golden/orange appearance until this one and they’re always more of the lemon colouring.

That is a beautiful fish, I think the goldflake has a trueness to its colors that makes it better than flagfin but it's a beautiful fish, I had one for 6 weeks in QT and one day he decided that flying was a good idea, sadly he was wrong.

What is the time difference between these two sets of pictures? I'm trying to understand how quickly the color transformation occurs.

Also, that's a crazy cool misbar pattern!
