morning everyone! anyone know if im able to keep rodi mixing and the system outside? I would keep it covered 100% of the time. im going to dig into it but let me know if you have any more info
I store mine in the garage, but I only make 60 gallons at a time. Thirty gallons are for my water change. Unfortunately, I'm still trying to use up the rest of my Red Sea salt. Once I mix it, I have to use it within 24-48 hours, or I get a brown film that gets nastier the longer I store it, but that has nothing to do with keeping it in a hot garage. It still happened when I kept it in the house. My top off water usually lasts two weeks, and I've not had any problems. I do have a powerhead running in both.

When I said my top off water lasts two weeks, I meant two weeks before I have to make more :)

I keep a carbon reactor hooked up to a small pump in my salt barrel. The water stays clear. I think the water in this picture is about six months old. Still crystal clear.

Does the carbon strip too much from the salt mix?
I wouldn't think so, but I have never run an ICP test before and after. I have done that for years and have had no issues.

My bad. Here! I need a lense for my camera. This thing is so pretty when the lights are coming on. It shows green and pink ❤️

Hahah! I want to do a 80G deepblue. i want to do things right this time around. I learned a lot how to do better for the diy stand sump and especially plumbing! I wish I would have gotten the 80 to being with but I didn't have the 4ft space. now I probably have 5-6ft for a tank but don't wanna spend that money especially if im moving out in a few years

Yeah but black would block out more light. But I was thinking just build up the white enough layers should be good :)

I left my unit out on the covered back porch for 2 weeks in the middle of summer while i was ordering the correct parts for hookups.
The DI resin turned brown on a bout the top 1/8 of the unit.

My suggestion is to keep it inside if possible. Buckets outside, RODI inside.

Also read about someone on here who has their mixed barrels outside, when doing water changes they bring them in 5g buckets inside and throw a frozen water bottle in each for a few minutes.

Does the carbon strip too much from the salt mix?

Carbon is a + ion
The elements in salt mix that we want are also + ions.
So, carbon is a great addition to salt mix! Dont even have to use a reactor, just a bag will be fine. Just make sure you have a powerhead keeping the water moving constantly.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
