The Debut
Good Morning,

Welcome to our newest addition to the house! The mushroom Kingdom Deskmate! The purpose of this tank is to allow my wife to have all the mushrooms she wants without messing up the balance of my Mixed Reef Tank. Also gives me the opportunity to get a mantis shrimp!

She loves mushroom corals but they can be a bit prolific. So She can have her piece of the ocean and I can have my Mantis shrimp in a species only habitat.

Backstory
So all stories begin with well a beginning. This is not a brand new Eshopps Deskmate. I came across this on a local FB club. I ended up trading for the tank Kraken reef lid evap cover and an AI 16 HD. I ended up doing a trade for some other equipment I didn't need that was in my closet. This was a pretty sweet trade that I was able to get. I really love this little tank.

The Debut
So fun fact this will be my first ever Acrylic tank!. This is pretty exciting to me. I just never looked into actually owning one. This will also be my first mantis shrimp as well. I have been reading about them and their care. I created in CAD a 3D printed a "cave" of sorts for him to reside in. I wanted to make my own cave instead of buying a piece of PVC. I also used CAD and 3D Printer for cover to prevent any salt getting on the Laptop on her desk and her art. This setup is going to be basic mind you as it will house mushrooms and mantis shrimp. So without further ado Please enjoy!

Construction Woes
Good Afternoon,

Sorry for the long space between updates should be getting some sooner but as some of you may know im slow on updating my build threads but promise its worth it lol :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Cycle Complete
The nitrogen Cycle has completed. I tested 3 days ago and Ammonia was at .1 ppm and Nitrates were at 16.9ppm. I did a small like 1 or 2 gallon water change after testing. I have the AI Prime on for these shots but have been keeping it off.

I will probably hold off for the Mantis for a few months. Just to make sure cycle is stable enough. Should be though!

The Woes
So as of right now im having trouble keeping the temperature stable. It may not be a huge deal but it is to me. As if right now its sitting at 76.8. But I have seen it as low as 74 degrees. This is the Heater im using currently. I think its because its pre set at 78 degrees and isnt adjustable....

Lifeguard Aquatics Mini Heater

I normally dont get pre set heaters but Im having a difficult time to find a mini heater that will fit in the back of this tank that is adjustable. So please drop some suggestions if you have any.

Brave new lands

Hi everyone

So sorry about the lack of updates on this one 😬

My wife moved her things into the spare bedroom, freeing up the room that’s now solely my office.

Brave new lands
So the mushroom kingdom (I hope) will start kicking off now haha. Honey do lists and kid to do lists have been up there this summer. But anyways with the tank more or less foundationally the same just a new location. We have moved to the highlands (upstairs) in search of better place for it to start growing. So I dont have many new pics but just trying to get the rocks colored and soaking in that sweet infancy stage.

Looking forward to seeing this progress!

On the heater situation, not sure if you figured it out yet but 2 things if you didn’t.

1) if you heater is plugged into the inkbird (which I would assume it is) then check the heating differential setting on the inkbird and change it to the lowest increment. If the differential is set too high then it may be cutting power to the heater for a while before letting the heater kick back on. This could be the root cause of your issue and would happen with any heater plugged into the inkbird. I would also set the upper limit of your inkbird to just above the target value so it doesn’t always cut it off right at 78.

2) if that’s not the issue then I would say you could 1) you could try an ehiem 50W heater, they are more bulletproof but tend to have a chunkier profile which may not work well for the deskmate or 2) get the Tetra HT 50W, I use it in my fluval spec 5 in a pretty tight return chamber, its a preset but hasn’t missed a beat for me over the past 5 weeks (and I have used them on various FW tanks in the past), it should hold 78 for you no problem, just be sure it’s plugged into the inkbird, and I would buy a second one to keep as a spare. They are good when new but i have had older ones fail on me and get stuck on, not what you want, the inkbird would obviously zero out that risk.

Good afternoon,

A Mushroom Town
Well we have 8 new residents in the mushroom town? Not a kingdom yet but will be soon. The diatoms pretty much went away from the last update. I did a fresh water change on it yesterday and put them in 8 last night.

Running the AI-16 at about 8 Watts currently. I need to remeasure par and see where we stand but the foundation has been laid and inhabitants are coming.

Have a blue discoma
Rainbow yuma
Tiny saturns ring
a couple bullseye
red mushroom
bright red mushroom
Uranium rhodactics
Superman mushrooms

I recently had an incident where Superman mushrooms “SLOWLY” killed Sunkist mushroom which was on the same island next to one another for many months.
I ended up taking out the Superman mushroom and chucked it.

I would put the similar types together but not all on the same rocks. Maybe bounce with bounce, hairy with hairy etc. Some may over take before others wil but they will fight.

Im hoping they will find a section on the rocks to sit and I can put new additions in with that in mind
