Babies? They take around 9 months to catch after trying for a little bit (sometimes no trying is necessary). Although, occasionally a stork will catch one and drop it off at your house from what I've seen on TV.
What size tank do they need? Asking for a friend

I went out to 3 stores tonight to look for butterflyfish and struck out. Did come home with 2 nice wrasses! Not good pics since I took them through the bags.

One for the butterfly and wrasse tank, 1 for the big FOWLR. Halichoeres cosmetus and Cheilinus fasciatus

Yeah, I really wish the butterfly lover's thread got the same kind of attention
I am a big fan of both. got a black back BF on order analog with a few wrasses.

Briefly saw the blue flasher today, but it darted back into the rocks when it saw me.

The Carpenter's, dusky, and the cosmetus are out and about though!

Cosmetus are really pretty when they color up. Underrated wrasse, in my opinion.

And I hope you post pictures of your other new guy as it develops into a beast!

Absolutely! The tank he's in looks pretty rough currently, as I'm in the middle of a water change, and I have an egg crate divider down the center to protect him and the other fish I finally moved over (clown tang, bigeye soldierfish, and the redbreasted maori wrasse. 5" Sohal tang is on the existing fish side, 5.5" clown tang on newbie side. A few of the existing fish (mostly damsels, the slippery wrasse, the secretive wrasse, the dottyback, hawkfish, Harlequin bass, and zebra moray ended up with the new guys, but the bruisers (puffers, triggers, tangs, hardwickes wrasse, and maculosus angel) ended up separate, so no big complaints here.

I'll also say the secretive wrasse (Pseudocheilinus evanidus) is super under-rated. Mine has never shown any aggression, I moved it into the big tank after reading horror stories about sixlines (which I've also never experienced over the years). Minds his own business, and occasionally cleans the big fish. They actually pose for him to clean them like they would for a cleaner wrasse, and he does so, but doesn't harass the puffers or triggers like a cleaner wrasse.

Okay I see this thread is crazy!
I’m setting up a 56 gallon seahorse tank
Thinking 2 clowns
Blue spotted jaw
Fire fish and wanted to add a wrasse
I’ve always had a 6line anyone have a suggestions for a utilitarian wrasse also seahorse/pipefish friendly?

I would do a possum wrasse or pink streak wrasse. Most other genera of wrasses commonly kept in reefs (Macropharyngodon, Halichoeres, Pseudocheilinus, Pseudojuloides, the majority of Cirrhilabrus and Paracheilinus) are going to be too aggressive to go with ponies.

Depending on tank size, one of the smaller flasher wrasses like a blue, Carpenter's, McCosker's, or yellowfin would also be a nice addition, or even a Lubbock's fairy wrasse would work, though they wouldn't do anything for pests.

Wow thanks for the info! So the flasher wrasses don’t touch the pests much? Or just the Lubbock’s?

Hey Fishfreak2009, which wrasse is front and center in the last photo? Stunning fish!
Cirrhilabrus ryukyuensis, the yellowflank fairy wrasse. Awesome fish, definitely one of the larger fairy wrasses, and not horribly aggressive. Holds its own, but doesn't go out of the way to chase anyone. He's kind of a gentle giant, keeps all the others in line without having to nip or chase anyone.

Fairies and Flashers don't go after pests really at all. They are zooplankton feeders in the wild, and would much rather feed from the water column than eat from the rockwork or substrate.

Interesting! Thank you so much for the input I think pink streak might be the winner!

You can get a pair of them! They are a lot of fun together. Make sure one is a female. Mine are very cute together.
