The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

definitely interested in seeing if this works long term, I think I’m going to end up with 3 new wrasses for my nano;
Choati (It’s been a dream for a while and it will likely happen)
And possibly a pair of tanakai possums

I wouldn’t say it’s long term however 6 months in on my pair and they still are a pair but they dont really hang out together too often - You do spot them together every so often by just seeing two sets of eyes poking out and staring at you.

Having read pretty much anything I could find on these fish over the years, I rarely (almost never) saw examples of people keeping multiples of the same species. This made me want to give it a try for “science” and being able to share the results with others. These two weren’t sold as a pair and were kept in separate tanks at the LFS, so I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. Just figured I’d give it a shot and be hyper vigilant for a while. Fingers crossed!

Sounds like after 6 months yours have a good relationship going, if not love, at least it’s peaceful! It’s only been a few days, but like you said, they aren’t always glued to eachother like clownfish are. They just seem to always be hovering around in the vicinity of eachother/the little rock island they seem to like.

+1 for a Choati. I’ve never kept one, but they are so darn cool. And just like that you got me wanting one!

My pair did start as a trio but the third did well and then slowly went downhill so I think she has internal parasites, I don’t know exactly when she went missing but it was around the 2 month mark.

The reason you don’t hear much about people keeping multiples is due to how wrasses generally transition to male no matter what and due to Wetmorella species being hard to differentiate as males, you don’t always know when they transition.

I did state about it briefly that Elliot had some. Salty is the one who wants it.

Not sure when they get new fish in. Been stalking the website everyday, but not much new is listed. If I don't hear from him by Friday, I'll call down there.

Something tells me, I'm not supposed to have this wrasse. :(

I keep my yellow banded possum in a VERY busy 75 gallon and he does just fine. Lots of food and plenty of rockwork and he seems to be doing well. Still nice and fat and I regularly see him moving around under the overhangs and darting out to grab bits of food. Still way more outgoing than the red stoplight cardinals I only see when feeding the tank, or the yellow brotulid pair I see maybe once every 1-2 months if I'm lucky using a red flashlight at 2 AM.

Try talking with them via Instagram. They seem much more active on there then anywhere else.

So yesterday I said I was on the phone with WWC for a wrasse……..they kept putting me on hold :rolleyes: so I ended up calling again around 6 and was told ”oh yea yea we definitely have one of course it’s 3 inches I think can’t quite tell oh it just dove in the sand bed” I was like great, ‘little late for me to go so I’ll head there tomorrow’ I call again to make sure it’s still there and what am I told!? Oh I’m sorry the last one was sold last night :angry-face::angry-face::angry-face:


Why is it soooo hard to get myself the first wrasse! I keep having to post pone it :angry-face::anguished-face::rolleyes:

Vivien out like nothing happened. Went into the sand bed over a week ago with heavy breathing. Treated the DT with prazi twice and so far so good.
