What are you talking about look at its colors patterns it’s like a Saltwater African Cichlid!

Maybe that photo wasn’t great but when fishing them up they’re generally brown juveniles.
This is rare but sometimes we do fish them out like this

Hey wrasse guys, I have a naokos that just finished qt, so I've had him for a while but when I added him to dt today he wasn't swimming right. Struggling with the current of the tank, it was like he wasn't using his tail fin. He is strong enough to swim away from the pumps but otherwise swimming was just not going well for him.

In qt he's gone through prazipro, copper power and metroplex. Throughout he did really well, maintained his appetite etc..

In qt he seemed perfectly OK, but it is a smaller environment with gentle bubbles rather than wavemakers to swim against. He's medium sized, about 2 1/2 - 3 inches and he's now back in the qt tank but he's super stressed at this point. I just don't know what to do, if it's neurological or physical injury, thanks for any advice

I will try, when I added him back into qt he was just laying on bottom. I do have 2 pictures from sunday

Edit: I just checked on him, don't think he's alive anymore. This is Pretty sad, he did so well in qt such a happy Lil fish. I would never have moved him if I knew he was struggling so much, he seemed great just this morning.. this one hurts. Thanks guys, I appreciate you checking out my post

I know it causes them to swim in circles. I just have no idea what the name of it is.

Yeah, it’s nicknamed the Unknown Neurological Wrasse Disease but is abbreviated to UNWD. It went under the radar for so long because of the symptoms being so similar to a Spinal Injury.

I think this wrasse was likely spinal injury. I’m not aware of UNWD happening overnight. @Jay Hemdal

I’m excited. Just got my first wrasse. A Melanurus . Here it is still at the store, as I’m not even home yet.

It can develop very fast. The problem with the spinal injury idea is: why do these wrasse never show facial damage, and why don’t other flighty fish (and even other wrasses) get the same injuries?

Well, I ordered a bunch of new fish from NY Aquatic. It's my first time ordering from them, and I'm excited to see how they do. Mostly big fish (maculosus angel, regal angel, moorish idol, naso tang) but I slipped a wrasse in as well! Ordered a yellow tail tamarin (Anampses meleagrides)! All the fish should be arriving next Thursday.

Also picking up an 8'x2'x2' 240 gallon acrylic tank on Saturday for my bigger fish, which I'm sure the big wrasses like the broomtail will appreciate!

And snapped a quick video of the newest wrasses in quarantine eating frozen mysis and brine tonight. The moyers is definitely the biggest pig, it's even a little bossy with the other wrasses.

Unfortunately, the reason why prices have skyrocketed is because shipping rates to import the fish in from overseas and also to the buyer have skyrocketed. There are also increased costs to feed, test and medicate the fish for the 30+ day quarantine.

Good observations. Thanks for your comments. I may be biased watching my hooded flame hit the side of a bucket and become instantly paralyzed. Several months ago i saw a naoke at the lfs not using the rear half of it’s body. No visible damage so what you are pointing out makes sense.

I grab one and suddenly it’s the big thing on here. I’d say it was my great pictures but I guess the same thing happened with the Choati and the xenojulis in the last couple months.

I've liked them all for a while but usually don't see them locally, or if I do they're super expensive. Picked up these with my tax return.

I actually prefer the red tail tamarin over the yellow but that'd not gonna happen any time soon.

I had a red tail tamarin 20 years ago. Forgot it was from Hawaii. Those were the days. Marshall Island rock and all.

I love red tails and will always kick myself over not grabbing the specimen I saw… Oh well, I guess Hawaii may add to the list in the future (Hopefully).

Dang, it’s not every day people pick up the female Melanurus. I personally find the female nicer, the blue and yellow lines are gorgeous.
