So, I got a lunar wrasse awhile back. I've read they are terrible for a reef tank. When I got him it was to replace a yellow wrasse that jumped. I actually like the lunar Way better. He has been a model citizen in my tank. Just wondering if I'm missing something.

Maybe you’ve just gotten lucky and have a well behaved specimen. I know a few people who have had success with them in a reef and with smaller wrasse but it’s not common. I’m sure you’re glad it hasn’t posed a problem. Maybe however once it grows older

A photo helps the most, you’ve likely gotten a juvenile/young adult and he’s staying peaceful however once he matures he will likely terrorise smaller fish and potentially eat them.

Can someone please identify this wrasse for me? It was sold to me a carpenter's wrasse, but it looks nothing like the ones I've had in the past.

It looks to be either Cirrhilabrus rubripinnis or Cirrhilabrus cyanogularis. I’m leaning towards Rubripinnis as the blue slit on the throat looks to be rather minimal whilst Cyanogularis has a giant blue patch that goes right up the white throat.

My new tiny Black Leopard. She was abused by her tank-mates at the LFS. She is doing really well now. Out all the time as soon as the light come on and out until I can barely see into the tank before she go to the sand. She is only 1 inch with the clear tail included. Her fins are growing back. She hunts all day and already start eating pellets.

I love small/tiny fishes. I have just the set up to raise small fish until the time they can safely join the fray in DT. She was heathy and actively hunting at the LFS so I got her, knowing that the fins tears will heal.

I love small/tiny fishes. I have just the set up to raise small fish until the time they can safely join the fray in DT. She was heathy and actively hunting at the LFS so I got her, knowing that the fins tears will heal.

Small fish are the most rewarding fish! Especially if they change colours from juvenile to adult/male. I love my fish as they were mostly all grown from small (1-2”) juveniles with a few exceptions - Most noteably the Regal Angel. It’s like growing corals from frags, they take forever to grow but when they set off they give the most rewarding results.

My Leopard I have currently was grown from a 0.5” juvenile in September 21 and she’s only now about an inch and a half. Wish I had a photo of her up close but here she is.

The dragon looking thing is a dragon wrasse :face-with-tears-of-joy: Novaculichthys taeniorius (i think) not reef safe and aggressive but I have one.

Question for you all:

I’ve heard of people using bins of sand placed in tanks for sand sleepers, mostly in cases of acclimation or QT, but I’ve not often heard experiences from people who have done this long term. Has anyone here used this approach long term and had success?

My daughter saw a blue star leopard a week ago and was infatuated. To promote their interest in the hobby and caring for creatures, I always try to get any fish that my kids show an interest in as long as it can be properly cared for. In this case, having switched to a bare bottom set up a few years ago, the only way the leopard would work is using some type of acrylic bin placed in the tank that would provide sand.

My initial thought is this wouldn’t work, and I explained this to my little one, but it did make me curious to know if others here have done this. I figured I’d ask if any of you all have any experience to share.
