The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Have had a rough couple weeks with my wrasse family.

My prized Lineatus injured his head which became infected. I removed him from the tank and did a rally pro dip and transitioned to hospital tank with excess O2, but he ended up passing.

Next my newly acquired Rhomboid female also passed. I knew prior to getting her that they don’t do well with shipping/transition and it was a risk. What is odd to me though is, she was eating and didn’t seem to have anyone really bullying her.

A bit of good news, I had a replacement RedTail Flasher Wrasse come in today and he seems to be pretty healthy and swimming strong/normal already within the acclimation box. The other two flashers in my system are sizing him up, so I’m glad I followed the acclimation box method.

Video of the RedTail:

I am cycling a 50g cube right now. How many and which wrasses would be good. I REALLY like the radiant wrasse.
You could probably do a radiant and maybe a pink streak

I like the radiant a lot as well. This guy has been with me for about 4 years. I'd be interested in H. rubricephalus in the future potentially. Curious if others have experience with the rubricephalus.

Unfortunately I’ve never known anyone to have long term success with the red head. Probably just bad luck though.

Do wrasses have personalities like so many other fish?
Of course. Wrasses are one of the very few fish to have passed the mirror/self-recognition test. They are probably the most inquisitive fish you can get. I could give you suggestions if you want a wrasse with a big personality?

Im always open to suggestions. My tank is eliminating ammonia surpisingly fast. It went from 2 to .25 in 18 hours and its only been a week

Sorry, just realized you were the one who just asked for suggestions. A radiant is a great choice for personality. Though not as fun as some of the monsters and unfortunately I have changed my mind on the very cool cleaner wrasse, they are too aggressive IMO. The other wrasse I suggested, the pink streak, is a shy quirky fish.

For a 50 cube with good rock structures, I'd say a radiant is a good addition, a male and female pink streak is always fun, and a leopard wrasse. Maybe a pencil wrasse if you can find a healthy one. Not all at once. I understand your tank is just cycling. They will benefit from a mature system that has lots of little critters (pods) for them to hunt.

ID please help
Got this wrasse yesterday, online delivery, but not the one I ordered.
But which wrasse did I actually get ?

Uhh I feared something like that. Hope it's not turning into a mean ******* 🤨

I have no quarantine system, and it was stressed up from +24 hours transport so colors was all different / gone, so now it is in the tank 😟
It was supposed to be a cirrhilabrus luteovittatus

They are rather aggressive. OK for large tank. Mine is a 320 gal tank, he was fine. I don't have the experience with them in smaller system.Mine from a small female, to young male to terminal male progression.
