The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Love my six line, put em in a few days ago and its finally comfortable in the tank. Cool fish to watch. Since putting him in my psuedo is a lot more comfortable swimming out in the open. They man the middle of the tank and live rock, my clowns like the back and tlmy cardinal just floats freely everywhere. Love the combo of fish, perfect for my bio32

I had a sixline, but wanted an orchid dottyback and pretty much everyone said that was not a good combo going forward. So to the LFS the sixline went. Hopefully you're successful, but I'd keep an eye on them.

Prazi. If his eyes are still cloudy tomorrow I might try that, but since NONE of my other fish have symptoms, and he isn’t yawning or scratching or twitching, I feel like it is unlikely.

Wow 7 weeks! That's amazing, glad he came up for you! What a relief! I have had my Moyers for well over a year, he stayed buried for 3 weeks when I first got him, but I discovered he was being bullied by my checkerboard Wrasse, so I immediately took the checkerboard Wrasse back to the LFS. Moyers has been happy as a clam ever since. Do you have a pic? Here is mine.....jpg[/IMG]

He was being chased by pretty much everyone...the regal angel, yellow chrysus wrasse, potters angel, and the female clarki were taking turns trying to run him off- poor guy. I scooped him into the acclimation box for a while so he could rest and eat in peace. He ate really well, hopefully the other fish settle down quickly.

Out of the box today, out of the sand, and holding his own pretty well. Definitely happy to see him scooting around the tank, even if he isn’t *with* the community quite yet. The chasing is slowing down, pretty happy since I wasn’t sure he would even survive being in the sand that long lol

His eyes are still a little cloudy, but clearing up I think.

I would love to get your opinions on my wrasse plan. I can’t keep any sand dwellers because I had to remove my sand because of amphidinium dinos. So here goes...

I have a 180 gallon tank mixed reef with 2 yellow tail damsels, 2 yellow tangs, 1 purple tang, 1 pacific blue tang, 1 royal gramma, 3 ocellaris clownfish (long story) and my most recent addition, a McCoskers flasher.

In quarantine, I have a female c. bathyphilus, female c. jordani, and terminal filamented flasher.

My plan is to eventually also get both c. exquisitus, and c. rhomboidalis and then stop!

Anyone see any potential problems, recommendations, or any other “gotta haves” that would be peaceful in my tank?

A pintail and a single flame should be fine. It's not recommended to keep two fairy wrasse of the same species. They don't form pairs/bonds and the female will eventually transition to female and WWIII will break out.

No such thing as a dumb question!

No he's in Pseudocheilinus genus. This is a genus that has a reputation for being very aggressive with any other wrasse. It's strongly recommended to not combine it with other wrasses. Some have been successful but that is definitely the exception.

No need for me to chime in, the best already answered! :D Only thing I would dare to add is, why stop there?! Seriously having another flasher or two really increases the amount of displaying that happens. When I had one the flashing was infrequent but now that I have 3 one of them is flashing almost all the time.

I have lots of favorites! P. flavianalis, P. lineopunctatus, P. rubricaudalis, P. octotaenia, P. angulatus....and if you have the checkbook for it P. attenuatus. I would add the ones you plan at one time if possible. If you choose P. octotaenia though I would add the others first as it's larger and more aggressive, add it last. In a big tank like yours it wouldn't likely be a problem.

Question about the total capacity of the fish community. I currently have a 75g reef tank. Have a blenny, 2 clowns, 1 blue green chromis and a carpenter flasher wrasse. I am waiting on a Melanurus to be my last fish. Would I be pushing the bioload if I added a yellow coris wrasse? I need him to help with zoe eating nudis and they seem to be peaceful. I have a 20g refugium that keeps nutrients in check so I feed fairly heavy LRS 2x day.

I think the bioload would be fine, but I would use an acclimaton box to see how the melanurus tolerates him or add/QT them together. I had a tank before where I tried to add a yellow to an existing melanurus and he promptly killed the yellow. At the same time, a buddy had both in his 90 and they got along just fine.

I was planning on adding the yellow before the Mel. I want the Mel to be the last fish added for sure. Will use the acclimation box for both. Thanks for the quick reply.

Aaaand now the moyer’s is sand-bound again today. @saltyhog @eatbreakfast what do you think? I’ve seen the aggression, the fish aren’t going to kill him... but if he keeps hiding like this, he’s eventually going to start losing condition. I can relocate him to my BTA tank, the only other fish in there now are a pair of percula clowns. It’s a 40 breeder so a bit small, but better than death by starvation...

Give it one more chance or scoop him up the next time he pops out of the sand? He ate well two days in a row then went back under.
