It looks like yours is showing some darkening on its side which is the initial phase. Could just be the pic too if you’re not noticing a color difference.
In this picture there’s a bit of darkening in the center, I’m guessing that’s what you meant and it is definitely there in person. Here’s the photo from earlier

And here’s one from just now (Much more blue unfortunately)
image.jpg

The dark patch is much bigger on her (Or his?) right side but is certainly noticeable on the left. Wonder what you call a transitioning wrasse, hmmm….

Yeah that’s certainly not the photo and is definitely there. I’m looking forward to seeing her transition and hope to god I don’t need to remove her before it’s finished because otherwise I won’t get to watch her finish the transition because the LFS would put her in one of the back tanks.

I’m assuming this is what the male looks like, they look really nice but I bet their temper isn’t as nice as the looks.

Also, now I’m looking at the jade’s new photos versus the older ones she has more of a white belly forming and the blag bars on the bottom of the picture above are becoming more visible compared to them being thin lines.

It could take awhile. Hopefully it behaves while we wait :)

For sure, I’m looking forward to grabbing photos of each new colour that gets brought in as the change happens :)
Just gotta hope the iridis can stand up for the Jade, in the meantime I can be looking around for ideas on what my final wrasse can be. So far on the list:
A. neoguinaicus
H. iridis to pair with the current one
Any P’juloides species

Im up for more suggestions on wrasses that will get along with the current stock, Id prefer to not have another fairy or flasher due to it being a Halichoeres that will eventually be removed if he gets too aggressive.

So many wrasse such little tank space. I want them all
I know right!! There’s so many beautiful wrasses but so little room left, I hate having to just pick one. At the moment I’m leaning towards the Anampses or second iridis but I don’t know how to get away with two iridis in the same tank that’ll pair.

Here is a picture of my beautiful marbled wrasse that I had a couple years ago. He was being a turd so I removed him. However, I am looking g to get a reef safe wrasse for my new 270g setup. Any thought? I was thinking some type of fairy wrasse?
Well, depends on how much of aggression you want. In that tank you could have a lot of the aggressive wrasses but you would have to have aggressive fish too.

Peaceful is best I think. I plan to get a few tangs and I have saddleback clownfish. So there will be some aggression.i hope to keep you peace.

do you want it to help with “pests”?
Sorry I’m asking so many questions but it’ll help me to give you an idea of the genera of wrasses you could have and then you can form a list and then we can help even more :)

At this point no. I would like to have a cleaner shrimp. I am okay with some bristle worm control.

Okay so the best genera for you would be below (I’ve sorted them into what does “pest” control and what isn’t known to do it).

Ones that don’t deal with anything like pests or pods:
- Paracheilinus (The lasher Wrasses)
- Cirrhilabrus (The Fairy Wrasses)

Ones that deal with pests:
- Smaller Halichoeres (Just Wrasses)
- PseudocheiliNOPS (Pink streak Wrasse)

Ones that eat pods:
- Macropharyngodon (The Leopard Wrasses)
- Anampses (The Tamarin Wrasses)
- Wetmorella (The Possum Wrasses)
- Pseudojuloides (The Pencil Wrasses)

Obviously there is more for each category however that’s just a starting list. Smaller Halichoeres include:
- H. iridis (Radiant Wrasse)
- H. leucoxanthus (Silver Belly Wrasse)
- H. chrysus (Canary Wrasse)
- H. cosmetus (Adorned Wrasse)

There are sooooo many beautiful wrasses you can have in a 270 that are absolutely reef safe. These guys are relatively inexpensive also. I have experiences with many other reefsafe wrasses also but did not want just do not want to post them all at the same time.
My personal experiences, these guys are absolutely reef safe in a 270 gal tank:
Black Leopard. Sand bed needed

Wrasse, in general, do not bother other thick body fishes and vice versa. When you have semi aggressive fish in a tank, you need to keep them with other semi aggressive fish. Can't put in a very timid fish in a tank with aggressive fish becasue the aggressive ones will harasses the timid one to death. You need to find a fish that can hold their own against other fish in the tank.
Aggressive wrasse, in general, means wrasses that will bother and harasses other wrasse.

An update on the Jade:
MUCH lighter stomach, it looks almost white but is just a very pale green. Black splotch is becoming more dominant and the closer to the dorsal fin the body is the lighter it gets.
