That’s just using the 3 giant new rocks. Will be more complex when I add the other coral/rocks from my tank.

Is it too tall though? The top of the rock is basically level with the weir slots.

How many flashers/fairies are entering this tank?

If you keep that main arch mostly wide open then it should be fine, as you know these wrasses love to display and when they do they really use that open swim room.

Somehow I wasn't here yet but I am now! I like it. It's very open for LOTS of swimming room. You're going to add some smaller caves for the fish to hide in I'm assuming?

Yeah. This is just the skeleton and will add my smaller coral covered rocks once it’s set up.

A crocea might be nice up there and get enough light. That close to the surface you might be limited on what can handle the PAR.

They say give it a good rinse, but others say it's a guaranteed tank crash. I have no idea why, but sounds like it's because of releasing trapped up gases that lower the pH. For my next tank transfer, I will probably:
1. Remove livestock to holding tank/tub
2. Remove rocks with corals to holding tank/tub
3. Vacuum sand for the first time
4. Scoop out sand
5. Mix with new sand in new tank
6. Get the flow going
7. Dose new Fiji Mud; let everything settle
8. Run a ton of carbon
9. Test water parameters: pH, ammonium, NO3, PO4, ALK
10. Change water as necessary
11. Transfer livestock

Half the reason for not upgrading is all the hassle!

I did reuse my sand after even rinsing it and it still crashed my D-D1200 when I upgraded into that tank.

I believe I did a post fairly early in that thread about what happened during the low periods of the tank.

My 40 has all new sand. I put that in first, then Fiji Mud. When I transferred the Evo over, I just sifted the sand in the Evo to grab all of the spaghetti worms and other fun works to put into the tank. Probably a better idea to do that again.

I reused some of my sand. Rinsing it will get the junk out but it will also likely kill most of the bacteria.

I put 40 pounds of new live sand, 40 pounds of old sand from my backyard from the old 75 (rinsed well) and some new, not live sand (20ish pounds?) when I set up the 70. Some corals went in day 1.

The 125 got most of the sand from the old 75, 40 pounds of new live sand, and all of the sand from the 5 but I didn't transfer fish or corals for a week or two.

It entirely depends how you feel most comfortable - they are your pets after all!

I personally filled it and then 12-24 hrs later threw (I wish I was kidding, I dumped him in) the Jade in as I had lost all the other fish in that container and I was also worried about losing more fish around the house to ammonia. So I did my upgrade fairly quickly and definitely put in more fish than normally recommended when it comes to a new tank but my rock had the bacteria to combat such a high bioload.

It’s not just the fish. I’m thinking about the uglies. I know some people feel you should never put dry rock in a tank without “baking” it first?
