So I'm gonna build a stand to put in the sump. Because the Petco stand I have is insufficient , but I was wondering since I have to drain the water and transfer some rock to do this why don't I just go the extra mile and change the substrate from crushed coral to a nice white live sand .. So please anyone what's your opinion white sand or leave the 5 yr old crushed coral ??

I would say go for it. I think that the possibility of detritus built up in the current crushed coral substrate could create more issues. It could potentially cause a mini cycle.

Take a look at the special grade agri-live sand BRS has. In my last tank I used the pink fiji. Anytime any fish dug around in it I got dust storms and my rock had a white film on them. I used the special grade in the new tank. It looks great and no more dust storms!
