Too old for hauling buckets. Basement sump was the best thing I ever did in the hobby. Drop in a pump flip a switch it pumps it out. Tell alexa to turn on the mixing station and it pumps it in.

I just wanted to edit this response. I do actually haul buckets for the office nano 10g that's upstairs. I dump about 3g in the bathtub and lug a bucket from the basement to the 2nd floor. But it's not that much water so I am OK with that. But I am considering moving my office to the basement to alleviate this but that's a winter project.
I am of the mentality, and because I am lazy, the easier it is the more likely I am to do it. My fresh tank gets wc in a similar way. Pump out water to backyard or kitchen sink then pump back in from kitchen. Sink is about 15ft away so it's pretty easy there too.

Basement sumps make it too easy! Was not planned at all, but was 100% worth all the plumbing frustrations.

I'm setting up a pump from the fresh water tanks to the rain barrel. Why in the world would you not take the easy route?

I currently use caeto in the sump to help with nutrients. Is culerpa a more effective option?

It's a food option for herbies. Caeto is your best exporter. You kind of what them to have their own turf. Grape caulerpa is not likely at all the so asexual on you. Out of 20 years of keeping it, I never had it do that. Fern caulerpa is the one you want to avoid.

I am sure you know this.

If you like herbies, Lost probably has a lot of veggies he can hit you up with.

I grew 2 things, chaeto out competed my caulerpa. I don't have much left now. There is that issue also. Making sure your macros have plenty of nutrition where one wont starve the other if you go with mixed macros.

Fresh veggies are always good. Grape caulerpa, sea lettuce (same say it will stink the whole house), Actually this is a very long list. I wouldn't offer chaeto as food. It's hard for them to digest and comes out funny looking...

Remember the furnace fiasco of 2022? Yeah the one that resulted in the refi of the house and saving a crap ton of $$ on the mortgage? Talk about silver lining right well turns out there is a second silver lining. I am eligible for a 400$ rebate from my gas co for having a more efficient furnace installed. The check will be here in 4-6 wks. Guess what mama is gonna use that for?

Got my first big girl sticks today.

And the 2nd hand jebao I just got is on the fritz. Tuned it off yesterday to pull some of the gha I have been fighting and it wouldn't run after I went to turn it back on. The controller lights up and works but I'm not getting any movement. I broke it down cleaned it out (it was not dirty) no snails, and it's not even humming like it wants to spin. I kicked over the propeller a few times manually and it finally started again but the controls didn't change the speed or flow. I took the controller apart too and nothing was corroded or blown out looking. So I bought a replacement off Amazon. Hoping to figure out what's up with the new one and just replacing what's broke.
When I turned it off today it wouldn't start back up again and I'm just not messing with it again.
Tested the water this am. Ph was up 8.2 House has been open alot. And alk was up as well 9.0.
Po was a bit low so I fed reef roids tonight. Ni was at 15. Ca at 470 and MG 1500.

They said Millis were good to start. I have a birdsnest and pociliopora.that are doing great so I am hoping I don't kill these in a week. As for the pump replacement parts are cheap just need to figure out what needs replaced.

I really wanted a milli as my starter. I got a green slimer instead. I'm thinking of rehoming the slimer.

I will be traveling alot over the months of September and October. So I was looking into an Automatic Water change setup for the 180. I think there are 2 ways to do it. Get the AutoAqua or Kamor set up and that runs 300-400$$ or set up pumps and diy it. I dont have an Apex so DOS is out.
I do have one Kamor pump that I was going to use when and if dosing became necessary but I could use it for this purpose.
I am sorry if this sounds dumb but basically would just need some tubing and that pump right? Set it to pull x out of sump to be pumped into old 33g Brute and pull x from mixing station to replace? Do a need a second pump for in and one for out or can it be done with the same pump? looks like i need to do more research.

I would highly recommend the X2Sr-Kamoer for your tank. If you were to DIY, I would think you would need a pump in your mixing barrel and a pump in your sump. You could set up smart plugs and program them to turn on and off simultaneously. The problem I see with this is that even if you buy the same pumps, they don't pull at the exact same rate, so you will either slightly over or underfill each time, eventually leading to a salinity problem. However, with some tweaking, you could make it work depending on how much you change at a time.

I would like to do the equivalent of your average 10% a week so that would work out to be say 15-20g. over 7 days 2-3 g per day. Probably have to go towards the low end only because the mixing barrel is only 55g and i will be gone for 2wks at one point. Or the ultimate alternative is change before i leave and change after i come home.

The only diy route I would go is if you were proficient in coding and working with program to point things towards level sensors, etc. etc.
