6foot is being considered but needs to be shallower then 24.

I agree, shallower than 24 is a must, as I get older it is getting rougher and rougher to reach down that 24".
If I ever get another tank I'm thinking of 72x(30 or 36)x20 peninsula style.

Yeah, it would have to be a custom build, you usually don't find any standard tank sizes near these dimensions.

Ok, so I made it over to RMS to check out this special on the Seapora 135 gallon tank.

It is a standard tank with dimensions of 72Lx18Wx24H, no drilled holes, but has both bottom and top bracing. You can see in the picture there is also added bracing by use of glass along the middle brace and both ends. It comes with a standard looking stand, LED lights and glass top. I did not check the stand out much as I would not have used either. I just don’t trust these stands with this much water weight alone. All the corner and bottom seals holding the tank together looked good.



Now if you are looking for just a tank only that is drilled, they also have a Seapora 135 gallon tank that is predrilled in the bottom corners and have corner overflows for basically the same cost of the previous tank ensemble mentioned.

Now my two cents for what it is worth.
The first tank mentioned would make a great fresh water display tank. Slap on a HOB filtration unit, a couple internal low volume pumps and you are pretty much all done. To use this for Saltwater, I don’t know. Taking a chance with drilling a couple holes in the glass on the back panel after spending this much money, would give more than just the heeby geebys. Now if you were to use a HOB overflow I could then see a lot of possibilities start to arise. I mention HOB overflow because this is what I successfully used for the first 25 years of the 35 years I have been keeping saltwater tanks, all until the craze of drilling holes in glass came around a few years ago.

Hopefully this gives you something to compare to, with the tank sale going on at Bluefish.

Bluefish has a Seapora 120 dual corner overflows for 900 with 25% off this month.
They would have to order it in but it would be delivered to the store which is 15 minutes from my house. Mike and I could easily lift it onto the existing stand. I have a light and would really only need a heater, sand, rock skimmer return and maybe a uv.
BUT
I would really rather have a 150 but that means custom tank and new stand plus more gear. That's a 2k$ difference at least.
The stocking list will be :
Trigger: Picasso or Bursa
Wrasse(s): Red Coris or Hardwick or Pinkface
Angel(s): Red stripe, Coral beauty
Butterfly(s): Pearlscale, Sunset, Any really that I can get
Hogfish

All peacefull fish will go in first then we would add the others. Not sure if any of this makes sense but thought is run the 120 until the Picasso (or other fish) gets too large. Then either upgrade or move things over to the 180g as they out grow the 120g.
From the research I have done it looks like if the reef is well established and you feed enough most fish wont pick. It also helps if you have colonies. Based on the growth rate of the Picasso vs the corals we are looking at a 3-5 year run in the 120. So I think that is what we will ultimately end up doing.

Going with the 150g. As long as the floor looks good we will start the process next weekend. Going to run some more electrical and get the floor braced. I don't want any regrets. It will be an aluminimum stand to match the 180g and tank will be Glasscages. And she will be called......

With some nasty weather on its way and with the issues I had last time I tried to use the gene I thought it best to run it and figure out what the issue was. Turns out I had it on the 120 setting instead of the 240 setting. Flipped it to 240 and the house was up and running sans the ac. Freezing some water and ordering a new floor fan.
Go me.
Ps we are supposed to play hooky and go diving on Wednesday but unless the weather changes that's not happening. Also signed up for a try sailing lesson. Let's hope I don't want a sailboat more then a new tank.

From what I have been able to green from the interweb those tend to be more "dirty" then reef systems since there are no coral to uptake any of the nutrients produced by the fish. I could get a HOB skimmer as well to address this. It's a decision to really think on. I have priced out all the major brands but

I can attest that this is true

HOB skimmers have a tendency to overflow onto the floor. 3 times in my case and will never use one again.

For a FOWLR I would go the 6 ft. So many more options for fish! Which is part of the reason people go for a FOWLR is all those pretty fish that eat coral, but those fish also tend to be bigger. In the long run I think you would regret anything shorter.
