Just got this yellow watchman a few days ago and i haven’t seen him eat yet. He also appears to have like a white line or something on both sides of his body. He is in a quarantine tank with one other fish. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks

Jacob

I should also mention… he started in a hybrid tank transfer method with 2 mandarins. I followed the directions to the letter but on day 7 one of the mandarins suddenly died so i switched to standard quarantine. The other mandarin is in a different QT tank and neither it or the yellow watchman are looking so great

I’ve offered ROE, pellets, mysis….. i haven’t seen him eat anything. I don’t think those are scrapes, looks more like maybe distressed slime coat or something? I have no idea but it extends out from his body

I can't speak to the fish being thin or the odd markings, but I have a yellow watchman in quarantine right now and I literally have to put mysis or pellets almost on it's head with a baster before I "see" it eat. However, if I put food in the tank and move away from it while watching for 10 or 15 minutes I see it feed as soon as the Royal Gramma "pig" it is in quarantine with moves away. Otherwise, it keeps it's head jammed in a corner of the tank, However, it is not that thin nor does it have the white line. I don't get it, there is PVC in the tank, a small plate of sand and it wants nothing to do with them, just stays in the corner.

Peroxide bath not recommended especially for this length of time. May have had adverse effects

I feel terrible if this is what cause my problems. I followed the humble fish hybrid tank transfer method in the forums. That’s where i got the peroxide bath info. Sounded like lots of people had great success with it, but I don’t know what else it could be. Below is the protocol.

Sorry it died….

I’m concerned because it’s was breathing too fast/deep. I could also see what looks like white mucus nodules on the body….how is the other fish doing?

I've done hybrid TTM per humblefish with peroxide baths tons of times, no issues. The main thing though is that they can't have external injuries as peroxide will exacerbate them. Also, you'd need to be cognizant of doing it if they aren't eating and looking thin. Lastly, it might not be recommended to do peroxide for mandarins due to their slime coat. I believe it is different for some fish, especially scaleless fish, on whether peroxide baths are recommended.

Lastly, TTM would require you to be hatching and putting in live baby brine shrimp multiple times a day to sustain a mandarin, let alone two going through TTM.

I didn’t notice any issues and since i was using 5 gallon buckets as the “tanks” i could t really tell that he was thin until he was …. I was adding lots of baby brine shrimp and a whole bottle of pods each time i switched tanks….. i saw that mandarins were on the list of approved fish to do the HTTM with on that same feed but maybe i messed it up or maybe the ammonia got high too fast or something.

The other fish that was with it in the HTTM is in a qt tank and pretty lethargic . It’s a female mandarin. I have 2 qt tanks setup. The qt tank the watchman was in has a bi color fox face… who didn’t go through HTTM and he seems to be ok

If one thinks about the chemistry of H2O2, using it as a short dip doesn't make sense to me. (Note that doesn't mean it doesn't do anything). It would see to me that it would similar to doing a freshwater dip. Just like any medication/chemical, some fish may be more sensitive to it than others. That may be something that damaged the gill tissue.
