I am not under the impression that micro algae are fussy about the spectrum though sufficient light intensity will be importsnt. What are you growing the phytoplankton in?

It's a 300w light, it's pretty dang bright. I need to put shaders on it to block light bleed. I'm hoping it isn't too strong

You might shade the container rather than the light. That might be easier or move the container to the other side of the room

Why better? This one comes with a grow tent too, it's 30 for the light or 50 for both. Still think I should get the home depot one?

Better in terms of shape and output. 300w is pretty intense. You will want blue and red wavelengths with absorption peaks around 460 and 655nm, which the one I listed provides. The light should be mounted on the side of the culture, not from above.

It's more of a penetration issue. Thin and tall work best. Here's how I have mine set up. The lines need some work, but it gets the job done.

I see... I unfortunately already bought it because no one responded in time, I actually posted this twice lol. should I atleast try with this light first or just put it in storage?

I bought some of those under-cabinet LED lights at Home Depot (the highest lumens they had) and they work perfectly for phyto. I just use rubberbands to position them around the jug, which is in my closet so it's in the dark .

I'd give it a shot. Just be sure to light it from the side. I wouldn't put it too close to the culture given the intensity, at least not until the algae grows more dense.

Hey, the light that I bought, it'd be a good fuge light, no?

I’d imagine it would be as cheato requires a stronger light in order to penetrate through the upper portion of the algae. I use something similar, granted I haven’t actually added any macro algae yet.

Finally! Some good news lol. I type this with a sump far too small for a fuge but never know what the future holds :)
