I hate filter socks, but I also hate detritus in my sump. I’ve been trying to come up with an idea for a replacement for a filter socks. I have a CNC machine here so I can build a lot of different things.

I’d prefer if I could make something that uses filter floss or something that I can just throw away.

My kind is running but I thought I’d see if anyone else would want to chime in.

Can you just use nothing, and vacuum the sump with an old mj pump when it builds up?

I can...the amount of detritus is actually minimal. I think I’m just looking for something to build. [emoji38]

That's totally understandable! You have a cool toy and you want to use it.

You could build something like this, and run floss in it. Saying that I have a CNC in my garage and opted to run no filters and use a shop Vac once a month to do a quick vaccum of the sump floor, less than 2 gal water change a month.

Pulling detritus from the sump has been bugging me too. It builds up and if I touch anything, it stirs and then goes right into the display, argh!! I’m in a small apartment with no storage for a ShopVac, so stopping the problem before it happens is what I’m all about. Like you, I’m looking for a better solution.

Let the sump be. The detritus and mulm turn an otherwise void space into a 3 dimensional nutrient eating one.
Keep your display clean, let the sump do it’s thing
