Any updates? I honestly think you're one of the few actually pushing the boundaries of tank beauty.

I'd love to know your thoughts about making scapes a little more mixed - IE some corals/sponges draped or backdropped in macro algae. I have come across very few tanks trying this.

Thanks for the reminder to update this thread. It's been awhile. Been super busy with work, and while I still post regularly on my Instagram, I haven't done a great job posting anywhere else. I have a lot of new projects since the last time I posted here, so will work on taking and editing some photos to actually do a proper post with all of those new tanks. But here's a recent photo of one my pretty Pajama Cardinalfish in my 70g in the meantime. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

Took a photo of my 70g macroalgae tank after I did a huge trim last night. It was completely overgrown

A blurry-ish shot of this tank from a couple weeks ago. I have a UNS brand light screen (the Atmos which allows me to change the colors as well) for this tank now. I usually keep it on most of the time, but sometimes I like to still take it off when I do a deep clean and I do appreciate the clear back look as well.

A few new macro algae projects that I set up over the past few months.

B17F5DD1-42D5-435F-9835-07DE52A42A33.jpg

Details below.

Left: A new almost 3-gallon bowl. Filled with macroalgae, soft coral, sexy shrimp, Mini Maxi anemones, and a red mangrove.

Middle: UNS 30A - 7 gallon cube with black lava rock, Caulerpa sertularoides, Jania, and the centerpiece - a Fiji Yellow Leather.

Right: UNS 30A Dual - 7 gallon cube with a ton of macroalgae.

Using SUSANOO LEDs which are light bulbs from Japan designed specifically to grow macroalgae. I've seen a lot of great growth under these lights and love the color spectrum.

Let me know what you think!

What's your opinion about the lights after several months?

I was looking into buying them to my bowl.

I'm not full of macros, I got mainly softs, but I like this white look.

They work great! I love the color temperature of these bulbs. If you check my insta you’ll see current footage of these tanks under the lights and they are thriving.

Sorry, super late response, but yes. Currently dosing ChaetoGro, NeoNitro, NeoPhos, and All-For-Reef.

As far as an update, work has definitely been keeping me super busy so I haven't been as active on forums. I've been prioritizing videos admittedly for that social media algorithm (the beast is always hungry), so don't have as many photos. Also working 5 days a week back in the office now (before had at least some days at home) so less time to give my tanks all the TLC they used to get.

Having said all that, I do have 4 macroalgae tanks running currently (maybe 4.5 if you count my Micro Reef). Wouldn't say they are "show-worthy" (mostly overgrown), but I'll try to take some photos of them after tidying up.

I have this mangrove tank that has been running for over 2 years now (you can see some of my macroalgae tanks behind that - but they are way more overgrown now since taking that photo).

My most recent project is this UNS R80 though which admittedly is not macroalgae dominant, but has a decent amount of macroalgae in the display refugium and in the display itself. It has dual zones in terms of lighting with the left side running more daylight spectrum and the right side running more traditinal reef blue spectrum. Left side has macroalgae and gorgonians, while the right side is being reserved for corals that will look good under blues (a real departure for me I know). I'm still debating whether to start a separate thread for this project since it's not macroalgae-dominant, but also, less likely I'd be able to maintain 2 threads, so probably won't.

And of course I have a bunch of other miscellaneous glass boxes with water. Lol. I guess I have a lot of photos to take and updating to do. 😅

Finally got around to taking some photos of my macroalgae bowls tonight.

Bowl on the left has been running for over 2 years, the vase in the middle is brackish with Opae Ula shrimp and an orange mangrove, and the bowl on the far right I set up May of last year. And there’s a mini bowl full of chaetomorpha because why not.

Love that R80, what a cool setup!
It’s beautiful system on its own! I actually added a few more gorgonians and some halimeda on the left side of the tank since that photo. Will post up an updated photo after I get a good shot.
