To catch a fish...

I have a large tank (410 gal) and I would like to remove the two dwarf Angels I have in it (a flame and cherrub). I'm looking for suggestions as to how to get them out. I have tried a trap, home made old coke bottle, but they will not go in it. Have tried a couple of different foods in it to no avail but am open to suggestions. I have tried putting a net in the tank and leaving it for a few days and then put food in it to try and get them to eat out of it. Every fish in the tank will get food out of it except the Angels. They are both the most cautious fish in the tank.

Any suggestions short of tearing down my tank would be appreciated.

fishing pole.. maybe ice pole with a hook smashed down barb. maybe size 22 or so thin line i prefer florocarbon. favorite food, a few beers and some patients . also one of the most stress free ways to get a fish out.

Ya need a fish trap! They are fairly Diy easy. The tiny gold hook idea is good if the fish actually deserves it!

That's very nice of you thanks. I will shoot you a PM tonight. Any suggestions as to what type of food to put in it to get them to go inside of it?

You need to get the fish to relate the trap with food. I have caught many fish by feeding strictly in the trap. The first few times you can put some food around the entrance and then progress to putting all the food in the trap. After a week, I had all 4 of my fish sitting in the trap waiting for me to feed them :-) Of course the one that you are trying to get out is usually the last one that goes in...just have to be patient.

I think that is going to be the biggest problem with a trap. With as many fish as I have it will be probably take weeks to get the right one in it. Like you said, it takes patience.

u can try this way，open the light as usual，then suddenly turn it off，the fish will be stunned，then try to use a net to catch it.

Cracker sent me his trap and it worked flawlessly. Got both fish within about 30 minutes. That's what makes this forum so great, someone that didn't even know me was willing to lend me his trap with no other expectation than to send it back when I was done. I can't thank you enough Cracker.... Trap heading back to you tomorrow!

I was going to add you can make one with egg crate and zip ties. bigger the better, works great.

Steve,I'm very pleased it worked so quickly for You.Usually takes me a lot longer to trick the trouble maker! declan it;s just a simple box trap design. Made out of acrylic. The door is glass because it;s heavy enough to drop quickly. It's up to You how to design the pin. here is a pic.
