Been having this Tonini tang for 3+mo maybe 6 mo my problem is a recent unusual behavior. Hes been pacing back and forth across the tank no signs of Ick or any other parasites. Besides that it can only be stress or water quality. Only other recent change is increased flow bc added new acros and added a small 50/50 enhancing bar light across the back 14,000k running at only 25%. All other fish are behaving normal. I have a 85g 60"×17"×17 rectangle display. Corals look great no rtl or signs of stress trying to dial in parameters
Sal 1.027 probably bc of elevated Alk
Alk 10 Dialing in dosing pump want 9ish
Ca 500 Same want 450
Mg 1500 Not dosing want below 1400
Po4 .15-.20 lowering using PhoE @ 3-4 days
No3 20 dosing Neonitrate 5-10 ml daily want 25.
I thought it was only at dusk or moonlight but now it seems more through out the day. He seems to settle in at night. After introducing him came a lm blenny, a pair of Anthias, and designer clown. He's always seemed to be the Alpha but recently noticed the bigger Anthia more confident. None of my fish are fighting at all. Not sure if he'll just chill on his own, or if it's normal or not, anybody have this happened before?

That is a rather narrow tank... and did you say you turned up the flow?... so has he started to 'surf the current', getting swept up
In in?

Yes, like possibly a playful/or boredom thing. Also, the narrowness of the tank (if there is little 'turn-around' room) may be contributing to the odd swim pattern; especially if the fish has grown sizable. 🤷🏻

I have a convict tang that would do that. Still does sometimes if the glass is super clean. I think the way the light hits he sees his reflection and goes on the attack. Could it be that?

All my fish are healthy can't say much for the beginning of my journey with the hobby in terms of the fish category. Thanks for the insight.

I also added more liverock but all my rock is the serpentine shape with plenty openings to navigate through. I thought this is what I wanted at first when he did it, but it seems like he or she swims the same pattern, that concerned me for some reason.

When I test for reflections I start by placing a large white towel fully over the pane (side) of the glass being surfed. I see what happens (if anything) after about 20 minutes. If that produces no change, I'll switch to a black towel. This can be done in conjunction with considering g room lighting-- such as the reflection from table lamps in the room.

If none of that seems to matter, are you in a position to move some rocks around significantly? But like you say, it's great that your fish seem healthy. 👍🏻👍🏻

I think the Anthias and LM Blenny took his spot in the middle rock I guess that could be the reason. Why does everyone I show my tank think I should get more fish, isn't 11 enough?

Yes, it's probably enough. They likely don't understand saltwater reef tanks, and want it to remind them of the Neon Tetra tanks at Walmart. 🤓

When I added my Whitetail Bristletooth Tang to my tank it swam in a small 1-2 ft circle for a month straight. He eventually settled in and swims all around now. I do see him circling every once in a while but that is quite rare now.

Sometimes I get alittle antsy and get the same behavior on the glass like that tang. Then I get a nice beverage and I'm cool. What do you think about Vodka you know for "carbon dosing" 😂. Maybe I could kill 2 birds with one stone?
