So i've been struggling with too much flow recently (I think) in my tank ive noticed. In one particular area I see the sand being kicked up a bit much...

I have

1 Hydor 750-850 GPH pump
+
1 Hydor 425 GPH pump
+
Hydor Controller... set at 7min intervals.

Im worried that this intense flow will eventually maybe hurt my corals...

Not sure what to do I keep moving the pumps my only other option is completely changing which side their on and hoping that fixes the issue but then all the other corals on the other side will be effected

Direct them slightly upwards, so that the flow is oriented more in the top third of the tank. This should lessen sand displacement. And as long as a coral isn't being hit with direct flow the flow won't be too much.

I have the 850 literally in the back facing upwards and it's hitting the back left side then being directed down onto the sand and shooting across... This fan is super strong

You have too much flow for your sand and I can’t help you with that.

Your corals on the other hand probably want quite a bit more flow. Corals require a lot more flow than most people realize (though some LPS do not).

Sorry 40g Nuvo. I believe that I might have a bit too much flow

I have the same tank and posted a few weeks ago that I felt I had too much with just the stock return. My torch looked like it was getting beat up. Ive been feeding it and its now a little longer so its more "flowy". I have my powerheads on now but at almost their lowest settings.

I would place the pumps facing each other near the top on the sides. I would set controller for short pulses like 10 seconds.
There are 2 parts to flow. Volume and velocity. You are seeing too much velocity. It doesn't mean you have enough flow. Just that it's too fast in a certain spot.
Pointing the pumps at each other reduces the velocity and increases random flow.

I like when the sand blows around. keeps junk from collecting & I know the corals are getting a fair share of it .

I'll try this and see what happens

a 40 with only 1,175 Flow
My 29 has 1,150 in Flow

Almost Exactly the Same Flow but 25 Percent Less Water Volume.

I Don't Have Enough Flow.

I am Adding More Actually.

You are at 29.375 X Turnover

My Friend has a 90 with 2 Vortech MP-40's (4,500 gallons per hour each so 9,000 total)

So he is at 100 X Turnover

He Says that is not enough Flow and he has more than Triple Your Flow.

Yeah, its how you have it positioned.

My Tank has More Flow and the Sand Never Blew at All (When I had Sand that is).
