Torch placement question

SO this may be a stupid question, I don't know. But a while back a friend gave me a green Japanese deepwater torch. well it does seem VERY happy, stays open and full other than at night. But my question is , I placed it in a "pocket" in some rockwork and while most of it's structure is clear, a fair section of the skeletal area (about 1/3 ) is blocked by rockwork behind it. So my concern is will that prevent it from growing out? I know once torches are happy, they say not to move them. Will it just naturally grow in the area that is free and clear? I just don't want a head to pop up against the rockwork behind it. I know this may sound ridiculous to some, but I just don't know enough about corals as this is my first time having them.

Not a stupid question at all. I don’t think they can “feel” where there may be a physical barrier and may send out a new head in the direction of the rock, but they tend to grow new branches/heads in all directions, so I wouldn’t worry too much if you like it where it is. But if you don’t want any heads to go to waste after they run into the rock, you can move it. I don’t think they are any different than other corals with regards to relocating. It may be mad at you for a couple days, but should be just fine.
