Vetting responses is really up to the community to do. We can correct each other in a courteous manner without insults. I also wouldn’t look at badges or reaction scores as a gauge of trust. If you really want to rely on one source of info though, read a book instead.

Agreed badges and reaction scores mean nothing. There are people here with a 150,000 reaction score, which mostly come from pretty pictures on "Welcome" posts.

Personally, I would like to know this info and would use it.

Not everyone here is anon. A lot of members have posts explaining who they are. But it is not hard to research who is who on here.
I think you missed my point. I was trying to say that people don't have these kinds of petty arguments face-to-face. Forums seem to allow the inner-troll to surface.

Understood. Yeah I see that sometimes. Some people just need to get a hobby. :smirking-face:

Certainly.

That very response is just a par for the course deflection from you and at least the third time that you have used it in this very thread when somebody has confronted your opinion or response.
I having a serious case of Deja vu here. I didn’t eat any mushrooms either….weird

Did you had to use Ai to count how many times I’ve used that frase?
I thought you didn’t like when people accused others of using AI. Do you see the irony?

But none of what you mention is a valid for assessing the quality of information coming from a given user.

This is why a separate and new grading system would be required.

And the beauty of it is that you can choose to use the vetting or not.
I see your point, and it has some merit. I'm just going to say that my understanding (and Mods please correct me if I'm wrong) is that being a moderator here at R2R is a tough, and largely thankless, job. I just don't see logistically how they would be able to vet everyone. I mean, would there be a questionnaire? Could such a questionnaire not be spoofed by, I don't know, Chat GPT? Would a staff member of R2R have to go visit each person and observe their tank? Is having a tank even a requirement for participating here? Again, good idea, I just don't see how they'd do it :-)

Someone earlier mentioned a "downvote button". Also not a bad idea, but I know that people will get downvoted just for having a difference of opinion, not necessarily a bad idea or post. And that I think leads to people not wanting to share ideas and different points of view.

Badges, I believe, are a good indication of someone's background and knowledge. Certainly, all of my badges I got by either purchasing a supporting membership, welcoming new members, carving a pumpkin, and playing Santa Clause. Clearly, no one should take me for any more than an active R2R user, not an authority on anything. But when I see users post with badges like "Expert Contributor", "Moderator", "Excellence Award", "Article Contributor", "Fish Medic", etc., I pay very close attention. So I think some of the vetting you're asking for is already baked into the R2R cake, so to speak.

Ok, true story and somewhat related….kinda. I have very little vision, and what I do have is pretty worthless. One day last year I was taking the trash from my kitchen bin out to the bin in the backyard. It’s the desert southwest so shorts and flip flops was the attire of the day. Halfway to the trash can and….squish….i immediately thought I stepped in a somewhat fresh present left by my dog. Well, that was right up until I felt it slither across my other foot. Now, I’m usually not one to panic but I have a dog that freely goes in and out and I was a day or two away from having a bunch of other dogs over for a week while family was going on vacay. Not being able to see, I was in a bit of a panic about the dogs getting bit by a rattlesnake. I reached for my phone to try and get a pic and call a neighbor for help in removing the snake. Unbeknownst to me Ai was just released for the camera (I already use voice over which reads everything aloud for me so that I can operate a phone). The phone camera automatically, using Ai, (without even actually taking a picture, the camera was on and I was just panning around frantically) said something to the effect of “this looks like a southwest gopher snake. It is not venomous.it is often confused with a rattlesnake but does not have a pit viper head or rattle. It is considered to be beneficial and will keep rodents away from you yard”. With that, who here (wearing a blindfold and not able to visually confirm this on their own) would reach down and pick up said snake based solely on Ai? Not me! I got help and we tossed that thing back in the desert.

I wouldn’t have trusted it. Lol

I didn’t say I didn’t like it, I may have mentioned that it will be used in future discussions to end up arguments.

I could agree with that if some badges were voted on by the community also. Though I highly respect the staff’s judgement, they never tell you why you get them.

Good point, I had not considered it like that!

EDIT: Though my reply was to a poster suggesting that R2R vet's its members, and in a way, that's kind of what they are doing. Though I do see your point for sure.

Out of how many times? I've found it to be a fairly good jumping off point for further searching, especially when I doubt the correctness of the answer it gives.

Funny how the anonymity of the Internet makes people go bonkers online, when they'd never be so bold as to have these kinds of interactions face-to-face.
ahh but some folks may be even more bold face to face. You never know.
