Hey everyone,

I have been trying to lookup info on the trident NP and all i can find are a few bad reviews and for sale threads, which might speak for themselves…. It may be wishful thinking but have they figured out the kinks with this tester yet? Thanks in advance.

No…I got it after several months thinking that they had solved the problems I was hearing about. I test daily with Hanna and the NP. The Hanna is consistently around 4 nitrate (+/- 2) and 0.04 phosphate (+/- 0.03). The NP will go from 4 to 28 to 54 nitrates and phosphates all over too. My system is 800g and does not vary that much. I mean you can clearly see algae growth vs no algae growth, happy corals vs unhappy you know? The Hanna is obviously more accurate.
The NP seemed ok for the first couple weeks, then I calibrated per instructions and now it’s wildly inaccurate. It also seems ok the first couple days after I change reagent and then goes wild again.

Just my personal experience with owning one for a few months now. I wish I hadn’t spent the money.

I love gadgets and really like the Trident despite it's warts but I just don't see how testing nitrate and phosphate once a week is more work than maintaining another piece of kit.

I would test daily if I had this. But I'm a GHL fanboy. But the Maven has caught my eye a time or two. Just as this NP has.

A simple search on this subject would keep you entertained for days !!!!!!

Yes, and no. Not everyone has the same experience and the missing link is installation base vs negative vs positive experience. We don't know what we don't know. With that in mind I linked a video in another thread Neptune has a firmware change in play that they are finishing up. One thing among it is the manual test result calibration that is found on the original Trident. I don't recall them giving an ETA and it may not solve world hunger...

I"m really hoping that this will come out. My NP has been not so reliable and would love to calibrate to Hanna testers for a better comparison over time.
I calibrated the NP with the solution provided then ran a test on the solution and it read 0 po4 and 41 nitrate, then tested tank and was closer to hanna test but then po4 drifted back to 0 on NP over a few days again. Not sure why I even have it still hooked up. I am on my 3rd batch of reagents. 2nd set seemed to perform more accurately than the 1st and 3rd

I really wanted to work but given all the reviews, I would never get one in its current condition — too much headache trying to match numbers against the Hanna. Might as well just test with the Hanna and save time, money and frustration…

Good luck to everyone. Hope they will improve the product and stop using paying customers as guinea pigs!

I’m not confident that being able to manually calibrate to the Hanna will fix the issue because it seems to jump so much that you’d have to keep manually calibrating. If it read a consistent # higher or lower than Hanna then I would think that would work. But it’ll say 10 nitrates one day and 40 the next. I’m wondering (0 evidence of this) if the reagents are just way more fragile than they expected. Perhaps you have to refrigerate them or something that nobody is doing/should have to do. Idk it just seems like it’s not worth its weight in plastic at this point. I’m still running it but don’t know why…

i just purchased the trident NP because i heard of all the negative reviews and the new update come out so I decided to give it a try, so far, the phosphate is working fine but the nitrate is way off at 28.1 and 35.4 and Hanna is at 4.7 consistently. . i put in a tickect already ,hoping there is a easy fix for it

My phosphate is a little better now. Let me know if your ticket helps at all.

I put in a ticket and I was instructed to prime the lines and send in a video of the operation and filling of the Cupet .it still didn’t work ,I primed the lines 3 straight times after that and it is working perfect .i haven’t had a issue since

After the update and primming all the lines 3 times in a row and using my Hanna checkers values for calibration it has been near flawless
That’s great to hear. Might be making an investment in it soon then.
I was waiting on getting the maven but I’m traveling so much lately I just need anything at this point. Hopefully Neptune systems treat me well!

The NP is doing a little better now for me after the updates. I changed it to test way later at night so it’s farther away from fish feeding time.

After initially running my np for a week or two, and a cal based on my Hanna, it’s been locked in since the update. Last check, NP was 19.6 and .06. Hanna was 19 and .07. I’m surprised to see all the negative. Maybe most is pre update issues?

Yes you can see in the thread that many users posted after the updates that things were better. Mine is still nowhere near as close as yours, but it’s close enough that I’m comfortable using it for a trend line. I still check with Hanna a couple times a week to ensure I know the actual value.

What time are you testing and how long between feeding is your test going?
