I am setting up Trident controlled dosing and use the full Triton method.

Up to now I have been dosing according to Alk consumption and just monitoring Mg and Ca (Mg (part 1) and Ca (part 2) run at 50% of Alk (part 3a+b)).

My target values are 8.0, 440, 1380.

I can set it up in 2 different ways:

A. Alk is the "reference" for all 3

B. Alk dosing is adjusted based on Alk, Ca dosing based on Ca and Mg based on Mg

What is Triton's recommendation in this scenario?

Triton recommends you always dose all parts equally (or 50% alk if you mix 3a+3b).

So your initial setup is correct, dosing based on Alk as the reference. The various parts contain various trace elements, which is why you want to maintain equal dosing.

Every so often things get out of whack and Triton recommends manual corrections. They’ve got a thread with recommendations for imbalance corrections:

Yes, A is the best option to maintain equal dosing across all components.

You may experience a surge in demand for one element (usually Magnesium) to start with and should then just dose with the appropriate reagent to level things out. Usually the consumption levels out within a few months.

Always check with an ICP test before making any big decisions on dosing.
