I own and DD a Lexus lx470 that has 265k miles on it. I would expect to put another 200k on it before it blows but the rust will beat me to it where I live. If you want longevity you can not go wrong with Lexus/Toyota. As others have said they hold their value too so I don’t know your price range but if you’re looking to spend around 3k you won’t find much from them unless you can get lucky with an older 4Runner. I had a 1992 4Runner at one point that I put through everything and still sold it for $1,200 after I blew it up. That was about 7 years ago. I also owned and loved a 98 XJ. Those 4.0 motors may very well be bulletproof. Seriously. I only sold it for more cargo space.

Also, do not be scared to wrench on an import. They are not difficult and the quality is just hard to beat, you notice it a lot more when you do your own mechanic work.

Is he going to have to take his drivers test in this vehicle? Learning parallel parking in a big ext cab truck would not be fun or easy.
