Anyone catch it? GSP is a machine! He took some shots but was never really in trouble the entire fight. The way the first two rounds started I thought it was going to be over in three. I was really surprised to see it go to a decision.

Sad to see Randy end his career by getting knocked out like that but it was a heck of a front kick. I thought I was watching the Karate Kid..lol

Nate Diaz got his butt whooped, tossed around and manhandled! Oh I so enjoyed to see that...:bigsmile: can you tell he is my least favorite fighter in all of MMA? lol

No doubt. I can't frickin stand Nate Diaz. I was glad to see ol boy man handle him. Didnt see the ppv tho. But figured machita would kill randy. N i like randy. N gsp is ridiculous. Hes a machine. str8 up

I saw it. It was hard to live up to the hype as it was one heck of a card! GSP looked worse at the end but he pulled it out no problem. Amazing how he can just completely shut down an opponent's strengths! Randy got kicked hard! Never saw it coming with the fake. I was laughing that Anderson Silva knocked out one of his opponents with the exact same kick (they both gave credit to Steven Segal?). I guess they all train together.

Hominick's 2nd head was the highlight of the night for me. Aldo would have gotten KO'd if there was one more round IMO. But that bulge on Hominick's head was CRAZY!!! I was hoping it would pop during the fight...lol. I'm not sure who won submission of the night but I hope it was that tall guy (one of the earlier fights) that did a flying triangle choke. That was insane! All in all pretty good night. UFC will have a hard time beating that one - in Canada with 55,000 people! The next PPV in Vegas with 20,000 will look like a backyard wrestling crowd : ).

And I hate Nate too. Every slam put a bigger and bigger smile on my face. He'll be out of the UFC by the end of the year IMO. Losses are adding up.

Card was awesome, but eh, I'm just not a GSP fan. He's one of the most gifted athletes the sport has, but well....that's it. He's stopped being a fighter and instead has focused on being an athlete who plays it as safe as utterly possible-can't say anything negative about him, he's playing the game perfectly, but I'd rather watch Sonnen any day of the week, even if he ends up with more triangles than an episode of sesame street.

I know what you mean about GSP. It's been a while since he showed a "wow" factor. But he is mowing through the division. In fact, there's really nobody left. I want to see him move up and fight Anderson Silva. But even Silva's been "safe" the last few fights. For me, I would watch Johnny "Bones" Jones over any fighter...anywhere. At least he brings the noise every time he steps into the octagon. And you know someone is gonna get knocked out cold! : ).

GSP aint ever going to step up and fight Silva- he's ducked him every time it's been brought up. Heck, Silva has offered the fight at WW, which considering he's fought at 205 fairly recently, that's saying something. And yea, jones is on a whole 'nother level of impressiveness right now, I just hope he doesn't pull a Rashad/GSP and start playing it safe now that he's got the belt. GSP was exciting prior to the Serra loss, Rashad stood and traded before the Machida loss- since those losses, both have turned into ultra-safe athletes, and it's just yawnfesting.

That GSP/Silva fight will happen. I'd put money on it. They did an interview with Dana a month ago and he said GSP told him he would take the fight if he beats Shields. Question is, what weight will it be at?

Fully agree! With the exception of a few fighters (Couture, Lidell, etc...who can request who they want to fight as they've earned it), he / Silva have complete control of it. But I am thankful that he has not taken the Don King / boxing approach where it takes an act of God to get a fight together - at least he does put some good cards together. But make no mistake....he runs the show and calls the shots (all of them)!

Yea I would like to see Jones/Silva fight. As far as picking, I wasn't making a comment about who I thought should pick just that I think that Dana runs it like a dictatorship and the fighters have less control than we think they do.

Definitely agree about the the exceptions. I also think the Silva/GSP fight not happening yet is more about Dana not liking Silva than GSP ducking.

There is still one more fight for GSP at 170, and that is Nick Diaz. It would be a very good fight as Diaz has a very good chin, great jui jitzu, good boxing and will take the fight to GSP. With that said I believe GSP has the tools needed to beat Diaz in a match that would most likely go to a decision.
I think Dana White will have the GSP/Diaz fight happen before a GSP/Silva fight. It would just make sense. Silva already has his next fight lined up in Yushin Okami, who he should dispatch of with relative ease.
If Silva gets past Okami and GSP gets past Diaz, we should then see GSP make a move up in weight. However, this does not necessarily mean that we will see the GSP/Silva super fight. Silva along with Dana have given the thought for Silva to move up in weight which would mean an even better fight: Anderson Silva vs Jon Jones.

Silva's said several times he's not going to move up to 205, when Dana forced him to choose either 185 or 205, he said no prob, 185 it is. Machida is one of his best friends and main training partner, no way is Silva going to compete with Machida for the belt, not to mention Noguera. A jones/Silva fight just aint going to happen, especially as there's no way Jones cuts to 185, not with the frame he's got on him.


Nick fighting GSP- not sure how that's going to happen, unless UFC does a show on showtime to make it happen? Strikeforce is obligated to that deal for awhile, and I don't see Zuffa dropping a UFC co-promotion onto a showtime slot, as there's not much to be gained from it.

And check out the war of words between GSP/Silva- Silva has offered to make the fight happen in several weights, many times over, and every time GSP has said he's not interested, or some reason why it won't happen. As soon as Silva is signed to a fight, GSP starts yapping about it. Soon as it's a possibility again however, GSP goes back the rhetoric about how it's not possible. Silva's not getting any younger, GSP just isn't interested in that fight until he knows he can gain a big advantage on Silva- and as of yet, he doesn't see it.

Now Silva vs. Jones is one I would LOVE to see down the road! Nick Diaz would be a pretty good fight for GSP but I don't think Nick has anything better than Shields - maybe a bit better boxing but GSP would eat him up with jabs and win a decision. You make some good points though. I don't think Okami has anything for Silva.

Drainbamage, if there is one thing recent events has taught us, it's NEVER say never. If Dana wants Silva to move up it WILL happen. The main reason for him not moving up permanently before is because his friend Machida and then Shogun held the belts(which you pointed out). Now that Bones has the title it's a while new ballgame. But to say that the GSP/Silva "ain't" gonna happen...
As far as Diaz fighting GSP, after Diaz's contract with Strikeforce is up Dana can do whatever he wants with him. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if within the next year or so Zuffa completely dissolves the Strickforce name altogether, example-WEC.
There are a lot of uncertainties in the sport of MMA right now, the last thing we can say is that we know of something with any surety. If last nights card is any kind of indicator, one thing is for certain, we as mma fans are in for a real treat in the future.
Soccerbag, yeah, I am still kind of a newbie in the reefing relm. I started last September. I guess I have felt like I have had nothing to contribute until now, lol. I am a retired professional mma fighter(hurt back forced me to quit young, 25). If there's one thing I know, it's mma.

Zuffa owns Strikeforce now so anything is possible. They said that UFC and Strikeforce will operate as separate entities but there really are no legal issues with contracts when the same company owns both.
