This is my male betta I’ve had for about a year. He is living pretty happily in my 13 gallon with pea puffers. Ive noticed that his fins have been “clamped” for a few months but never really thought much about it until a few days ago when i got another male betta for breeding in another tank and noticed how big and like fluffy it’s tail was. The betta eats fine and i even have him trained to go through a hoop for food. He is never really too hungry, i have a few ghost shrimp in there that he eats if he gets hungry. He is on maybe the 7th shrimp. Is he okay or should i be worried? He also loves to hang out by the overflow and just stick there until i come around and he swims to the tank. 1E10D2E1-1550-4279-A9D0-92524CFD1227.jpeg 308DB2A5-1ED4-46ED-8273-78BCA8B108AA.jpeg C3C97674-6B66-44A6-9DB6-B4E29E37E9CC.jpeg 3C5D6B57-D88C-4D98-97BA-D961411454A5.jpeg F03398B5-36F2-4122-8C9B-B5BE107C9ACC.jpeg

Could be old age.

He could be old or bored. It sounds like you have already done several good things and have a nice tank. Have you tried adding a mirror facing the tank for short periods of time or put another Betta in another tank within direct sight?

How long have you had it?

I think he may be gettin old. I have never tried that, but i do have another bEtta i could use to try

I wouldn't write him off to quickly. Although he may be beyond his best breeding years, his color and body still look good.

They live in captivity about 2 year average.
They do poorly with tap water. Main causes are:
  • Temperatures lower than recommended
  • Sudden change in environment.
  • Poor water quality.
If you can find them, almond leaves are a cure all for bettas

Will it be okay with the puffer s

Betta with puffer ? Puffer will eat its' fins like candy
Hmmm I’ve really never seen the puffers even go near him except during feeding. The puffers mostly keep to themselves, I’ve got two of them. They spend their time hiding or hunting (at least attempting to lol)
